    Hi,
    I'm looking to mod my PAL Saturn for 60Hz. However, all the guides out there that cater to this issue only cover 50/60Hz switches. I have zero interest in retaining 50Hz at all. I play 99% imported Japanese games on my Saturn, so the loss of 50Hz is no issue whatsoever for me.
    Anyway, I was wondering if there is any super simple 60Hz mod like there is for the MegaDrive 1, where you just cut one trace on the board and it instantly becomes a 60Hz NA Genesis? I've read a few guides about cutting traces and lifting leg 79 on a chip, but none made it clear which action activated the 60Hz mode!

    So yeah, anyone who knows about this and could offer some advice would be very appreciated. I know I could just buy a Japanese Saturn, but as I have a fully functional PAL one it seems kind of silly to buy another if I can just do a simple 60Hz mod and use my Action Replay 4M!

    Anyway cheers! :)

    Pin 79 on VDP1 controls the video rate.

    GND = 50Hz
    5V = 60Hz

    There are also a pair of jumpers marked JP1/JP2 connected to this pin - in a PAL machine, JP2 is closed and JP1 is open. In theory, cutting JP2 and linking JP1 will force the board into 60Hz mode. In practice, it only works on certain board revisions - pin 79 works on any revision.

    So just to make this crystal clear with no room for misunderstanding, if I just lift pin 79 on VDP1 and do absolutely NOTHING else (no wires, switches, or soldering), I'll activate 60Hz mode?

    You have to connect it to 5V for 60hz.

    Ah, crap! Might just get a Japanese Saturn then. No sense in potentialy ruining a perfectly good PAL system.

    Thanks to both of you! :)

    Why would that ruin the console?

    Don't use a switch - simple. A switch only bridges point A to point B or point C. Simply bridge A and B (well, you may have to cut a trace, forget which way round it is).

    Some PAL games may not run correctly in 60hz, though... so it's worth having the option to go back if you're playing them.

    The easiest, but not cheapest, answer is to get a NTSC console, sure... but it is an easy enough mod.

    Is there a list available for the revisions where this method works? I think cutting a trace is a lot more fool-proof than lifting the pin on VDP1, obviously.
