Okay, this thread is being made to discuss strategies on slaying dragons in the latest Elder Scrolls title. Please refrain from spoiling any content or quests in the game, and stick to the topic at hand. I'll start things off with the following: My strategy is pretty simple, I rely on a bow and arrow to get the dragon's attention, and use some shouts to prevent the dragon from owning me. I'm an archer, so I pretty much finish off the dragons with bow and arrow. However, as there are people playing melee, I'm curious as to how they manage to kill the dragons, since they like to spend a lot of time in the air.
I wait until they decent and slash them with my enchanted two hand sword, 10 hits or so and he is dead. So I need about two decents. They can't harm me much cause I spend all points into health. And if I happend to be in their fire breeze I just drink a health poition. Playing on standard difficulty, one before expert.
You could do what I did with the third one I encountered: Got his attention with an arrow, legged it towards one of those giant camps, sneaked through and turned around to watch the carnage. Except it wasn't carnage, the dragon landed straight away then the giant killed it with two hits and barely took a scratch! Has anyone survived one of the giant's attacks yet? I'm on level 14 and still can't take a single blow from them. Its fine now I've got good sneak skill, but when I killed my first one at lvl 6 I had to run away for a few minutes with it behind me all the way until I found an archway it couldn't get through, then shot about 30 arrows into it. God knows how melee characters do it.
If you want to use their own powers against them there's a shout you'll find on the Main quest which is incredibly useful and there is one found if you follow the Dark Brotherhood quest as well. Wish we had spoiler tags. Another option includes summoning a flame atronach, they have decent aim and will attack from afar.
Yeah, I have the one from the Dark Brotherhood quest, flame atronach is a no go since that's not my play style for this play through.
You could also find a follower with ranged attacks. There's an archer in Riverwood, and a mage in Riften.
Oh, man, I can't wait to get my hands on this game!!! My copy is in the mail as I type this. So excited. I'll be sure to document my first Dragon encounter. I'm sure it'll be hilarious. xD
Forget just one dragon i have had a point in the game where 2 dragons attacked me together, i was in a shop & i went out only to find 2 waiting for me. Did them both in but it took a while lol.
Lovely. I overcrest a mountain to find two dragons on the other side, which I only noticed when I suddenly caught on fire. Time to go to sleep. -_-
I usually use the Sanguine Rose which I got early on. The Dreadra summoned tanks the dragon while I hit it from the side.
Here is my easy strategy first I use my bows and arrows to make it decend and then I equip my sword and shield then I attack it head on like straight at its face. Then when it tries to bite or breathe fire or frost at me, then I hit his face with my shield then I keep repeating these steps then dragons dead. It works for me because I killed about 20 dragons. The only dragons I didn't kill yet are the elder and ancient dragons but all the other ones were easy.
I'm embarrassed to say my copy of Skyrim is still in the shrink wrap. I am a horrible, horrible person...
I have 1 achievement left to get (including dawnguard) and its a easy one, its just a case of farming points to finish off the werewolf perk tree
A note on the trolls: they won't go into water. So just go into a creek and own them with a ton of arrows. I've also had success with getting to a higher vantage point than they could reach. The trolls are actually much harder than the dragons in my opinion. I would like to see one slay a dragon, but I haven't had that opportunity in game yet.
