Once again, if anyone knows japanese please send the following idea. The ability to expand on characters, levels, costumes etc via updates or by buying future nintendo games. Introducing a new IP to the Wii after the Smash Bros. game has been released could be a sure buy for Smash Bros. owners who want to have more characters etc. The character/levels can be added to the main Smash Bros. save file provided they are found in the Smash Bros. format on the gamedisk of that future upcoming IP/game. In general, "linking" games could be a good driving initiative to make even more players buy newer games, considering that Super Smash Bros. is such a popular franchise. EDIT: something similar to the PIKMIN trophy, where if a Pikmin save file was located on the same memory card, a special pikmin trophy would be unlocked. This time around they could avoid the unlocking root, by actually adding the characters and expanding the game open-endedly. What say you Smash players? ;-)
Unfortunately, that screws over anyone who can't afford to buy every other game that adds a new option. Of course with the prediction of this being the "barebones" game generation (you want more than one level, go ahead and buy more), we will probably see something like this soon.
Well, I m not saying this be the only way of upgrading, but a good reason to buy a newer game that perhaps due to being a fresh IP wouldn't be much appreciated otherwise. Clearly this can't happen with every game, as it has to fit the overal Smash Bros. experience. In addition when you design a mascot brawler such as Smash Bros. you might miss-out on some future "cool" characters if you don't have an open-ended design to introduce new characters and levels. To this end, although I love my Smash Bros on the GC, i just got bored of playing the same old levels after about 6.000 multi-player matches. Internet downloads are a certainty based on what the interview said (he made mention of using WiFi connection and the internet - which means that one is for gaming online and the other is for content- plus Iwata's "push while you sleep" thing seems to be a match for such a game)
I think Nintendo should drop third party characters. I mean, why is Solid Snake in the game? It is a bad, bad idea.
It might get a lot of Metal Gear fans to buy Wiis, though. Which is kind of a lot of Sony Fanboys as well if you think about it. Not that Im saying liking MGS makes you a Sony Fanboy though.
the addition of Sonic and Master Chief to Smash Brothers on Wii would justify the cost of the system alone. *Concura
Sonic + Mario in any brawler would be an insanely potential seller. I think it's a wise tactical move to allow any characters in - more breadth of characters rather then rehases. Though I doubt we'd see Master Chief in there anytime soon, something akin to shooting oneself in the foot.
