Oh sure. When you can't even get the controllers from their Japan online store.

So does this mean we finally get Nintendo Gamecube games on eShop plus N64 & other VC games compatible with these controllers? Also can't wait till i'm able to play SNES9x, WiiSX, & Dios Mios on my Wii U soon without needing to hook up my original wii everytime :)

Here's hoping so! It also opens the doors for a whole host of accessories from the GC generation, things like converters for other controllers, etc. I'm just surprised that Nintendo are paying attention to the fans, as this is something they didn't have to do.

They're doing it for the SSB and Nintendo fans with extra thick nostalgia goggles. Some will swear that if you are not playing SSB with a GCN pad you might as well be using a stick. I think the tablet controller would work fine. I have not used one, but it has all the sticks and buttons necessary no? The pro controller is also an option.

That's what I was thinking. I mean, playing SSBB on the Wii with the Wiimote with or without the nunchuk was crap, but either the gamepad or especially the pro controller would be just fine.

Well all the buttons on the gamepad digital are they not ?, so if they are it would make sense to make this and allow GCN controllers since they are also all digital buttons and are really good controllers overall

    That's a very cool move!

I believe they will be producing more GC controllers now. Just like they did with the white ones for Wii.

My roommate picked up an off-brand one of these the other day. He now regrets his decision haha. So close to when they announced this. At least it works well.

They made off brand converters? Or are you talking about the controllers?

Hopefully this means we will get GC virtual console on the WiiU. I also find it hilarious/awesome that this almost means Nintendo realizes that they can not outdo a controller they made two generations ago.

It'd be nice if it'd support GC discs - there's no reason it couldn't.

By the way, is your name a reference to the song by Nirvana?

It will never support GC discs, as much as I'd want that. WiiU doesn't have the hardware to emulate the GC, unless it was a software solution.

    and yes it is.

Well, the Wii U hardware is similar to the GC and Wii hardware in some ways, such as the fact that they all use PPC processors and AMD (ATI) GPUs. So it seems like the hardware ought to be technically able to handle GC software. It is compatible with Wii software, right? I think Nintendo has their own reasons for not doing that. Probably, they know they could make more money by selling GC games on the Virtual Console. Or they may have other reasons.

The Wii U is fully capable of playing GameCube games. There's been a way to play GameCube games on the Wii U for several months now. You can even use a PS3 controller if you prefer.

It's a massive pain in the ass to set up, but it is possible. And if we can make our Wii U's play GameCube games via homebrew, then Nintendo sure as hell could with that GameCube controller adapter and a firmware update.

It's by May Flash. They call it a "GC Controller Adapter for Wii/Wii U." It basically plugs into your wiimote then you plug a GC controller into it. He was playing MK8 fine with it the other night. I'll have to see how much he paid for it.

The GCN controller is overrated amongst the older Nintendo fans. I do not see many outside that fandom praise it this much. The C stick feels substandard, the dpad is too small and imprecise. The shoulder buttons are needlessly quirky and easier to break than triggers.

I don't think you can ever have the perfect controller. To make room for a massive D pad you'd need to reduce the size of the analogue sticks and the rest of the buttons, and vice versa. I don't get why Nintendo didn't stick with the GC design for the Wii and Wii U and just tweak it a bit rather than coming up with a complete re design every single time.

Nintendo are hell bent on innovation I guess.

I still think the 3 prong design of the N64 controller was very clever since it allowed a full-sized SNES style dpad.
With all other controllers I feel like either the dpad is misplaced or to small or even both like with the GCN controller. Horrifying useless dpad on that controller.

I haven't tried the Wii-U controller yet, but if it was any good Nintendo probably wouldn't need to release the Gamecube adapter for the Wii-U.
