I've had this TDEV sitting on my desk for months now, so I think its about time I dust it off and attempt to figure out what its capable of. Thats where I need some help from you guys. Finding information on this elusive beast is rather difficult. I'm under the assumption that I can potentially code/debug my own software with this thing. I currently have the TDEV itself, the USB interface device that plugs into the bottom on the console, a BBA, an NR disc with "tdev" written on it (boots something with lots of text on the screen and a red background, I believe. I can go into specifics if its not inherently obvious what this disc is) I'm sure there is special software I need. What is it? Any experienced TDEV users still out there? HELLO hello hello...echo
Good luck with that, it's a mysterious beast. They used these a lot in schools, so you might get more help than you'd expect.
I uploaded months ago, the "bba config disc" from my own tdev kit. May be it'll be more essential in your quest of information. You have to burn the .gcm on a blank nr disc. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=51Z0VC3K
Our uni has them. They have a disc in them that's hand-written, NR, says 3.9.something. Needs the GC SDK and the proDG software, on-top of this you also need drivers for the USB device which are available on SN's site if you've got a valid login. Once you've done this and registered proDG you can add it using the target manager and then code for it in visual C++ and send programs to it directly for debugging. If you don't have that setup then AFAIK it won't do anything useful.
the disc tells the console to access the EXI Bus in order to pump data through the special USB connector. I always wondered if this connector + the .gcm written on a casual blank DVD-R could be executed on a retail GC. That said, I am aware of the memory differences between T-DEV and retail GCs so it might just crap out during the mem test.
TDev's have 48MB of RAM. I did 'borrow' a disc and try to clone it, Cobra picked it up, but due to booting other things like GCOS to back it up, they re-read it and woudn't pick it up. I didn't try booting it because I didn't have a screen. It probably would boot it.
Wow, nice. I would love to see some photos of the unit, especially how they crammed 48MB into the GC form factor as well as the USB2 comms interface. *please* open the thing! Also, is the DVD reader a normal one or a NR?
ohhh goodies! i'm excited, but I must be getting to bed atm... IIRC this disc (bbaconfig) is standard in the sdk/kit (you just have to build and burn the gcm), but thanks anyways. I'm pretty sure there are pics of the usb connector elsewhere on assemblergames - at least there were when I wanted to get one for myself (alas, none were for sale ;p) edit: while I was...waiting...I found it: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=337332&postcount=17 more editing: this appears to be the source: http://www.decemuladores.com/foros/...l-descubierto-incluidos-los-nunca-vistos.html But I second tmbinc's request! Disembowel the whole thing! to bed... edit3: here is just the dol and apploader for those that are impatient, like myself. Of course you should get the full thing if you're interested and have time to spare ;p http://drop.io/f251ps8/asset/tdev-7z emu_kidid, if you could check the dol length against yours, I'd appreciate it looks like fun - thanks again!
Good to see I'm not the only one who hasn't put any use in his TDEV yet, makes me feel less guilty that it's been on the shelf collecting dust for quite awhile now. I might pop mine open for some pictures when I have more time. The collector in me hates to break the seal on the side though. Oh, and the USB interface I have seems to be an earlier version:
