I just got a free pal snes that is not working. I cleaned the cart connector, the pcb, found 2 broken traces, they were for the extra pins found in fx and sa1 games and fixed them. Now the problem: 1. street fighter 2 turbo - first screen with the trademark and after that nothing 2. tiny toon buster bust loose - black screen 3. snes test cart - menu works, but everything i select (controller test, burnin test, etc) goes to black screen. Any ideas?
it seems there's another broken trace. i've fixed it and now it's working. i run the burn-in test and everything passed.
Either trace the the break to wherever it goes and solder a wire directly between the points or scrape some of the coating on the pcb (green coating) to expose the copper in the trace and solder a wire to link the trace. Simple.
should work fine, even pencil lead can work lol but not the post reliable better off soldering, might want to change the caps too incase leaking caused the broken traces
Try not to dig up 18 month old threads to ask a new question. Just make a new thread. PCB repair is either using conductive tape, conductive paint or wire. You either repair just the break, or replace/bypass the whole (section of) track. Electrolytic capacitors can leak, it's the electolyte inside. If you're wanting to do your own repairs, grab a book on basic electronics - it'll give you some good background theory
Traces are just wires that connect two points on a board. If a trace is no longer connecting, just take a wire and solder to the two points the trace connected, and you have re-connected that part of the circuit. I believe what synrgy87 is getting at is if the board has broken traces because it was stored improperly, damaged, corroded, etc., the capacitors might be damaged too as they tend to be sensitive. If you're asking about repairing a bad trace because you accidentally damaged it yourself when doing a mod or something, then that's a different story.
