Heard some rumors about some things that are going to make snk (aes) prices turn to dirt. Anyone know what this might be? Got it from a crazy snk fan, but he won't say much more? They find 20,000 carts in a warehouse somewhere? K
I wouldn't mind the neogeo market plummiting to hell that way i could finally get an AES and all metal slug games for a humanly affordable price.
Some kind of re-release? Probably not a clone, as clones don't seem to really affect the value of the original system. It could be some big surplus of stuff somewhere, but given how narrow the market segment has always been for the AES, that doesn't seem probable. Personally, I'm skeptical of the whole idea, but I guess stranger things have happened.
It would sure shut those "elitist" Neo Geo arse holes up at least. I'm hoping it becomes affordable for all ! Yakumo PS: Not all Neo Geo fans are arse holes by the way.
it would be horrible for everyone who paid an fortune for a small selection of carts if now they would go for dirt cheap... but he thats the risk of buying 'rare' stuff :smt043
I can't see anything happening to make all cart drop in price, but yeah, It'd be damn unlucky if someone came across a shipping crate or two containing 200 copies of DogTag MetalSlug1. Or even unluckier, another 50 copies of Euro Kizuna Encounter, that $12500 price tag would plummet. But to be honest, I'm quite happy with my consolized MV-1C. The same games, at a fraction of the cost, even when I have to pay for Shockboxes and printing inserts. The way I see it, NeoGeo AES and StarWars toys are 2 very similar things that will never occur again.
There's no mention in the major NeoGeo circles. Tbh the market has fallen on it's arse, too many conversions, too many people selling all their stuff in favour of Xbox roms.... Only news atm is the "appearance" of 6 dumped protos, 2 of which are the pre releases of Power Spikes II & Crystal Legacy (Breakers).
Oh, I'd love if the Neo Geo prices really dropped. Maybe this way I could afford some King of Fighters, some Metal Slugs and a few other games...
I would be fine with a re release of games as it still wouldn't effect the rarity of the games I have....It would be heartbreaking if tons of original were found after all the money I've spent..... :smt009
rayer: damn, i understand every collector who don't want to see this happen but i'm not of the same opinion! I want an AES, i need an AES! rayer: this is a legend, the last hardcore 2d game console made for gamers and i just hope i'll ever play a neo-geo for real, not on emu. (woops...:-D) i hope. :smt045 :smt045 :smt083
You can count on the fact that if this is true they will find their way to ebay and no deals will be had :smt009
The thing about AES is you still can't play Strikers 1945+, Prehistoric Isle 2, Shock Troopers and quite a few others on it without a converted cart or an !Arcade! adaptor. And then you still have to mess around to get one with decent RGB output. MVS is always the way to go. As for cart conversions, if it's an MVS only game, and you have the money to spend, getting a conversion done is cool. But conv carts of things like Blazing Star and Metal Slug 1 are a bit naughty. Even more so when you're selling them on Ebay with perfect printed covers, stickers and even manuals.
Neo Geo will never be cheap, Metal Slug games aren't likely to be found and if they are, they'll still fetch close to $1000. Chances are that there is no warehouse w/ thousands of games, if there is, it's not like the games will sell for less than their current or original price anyways. Besides, if games are found, that doesn't mean hardware will be cheaper. The Neo Geo will always be dominated by fanboys and the prices will always reflected that. It's all about whatever that inbred scene will pay.
I am kinda happy with my Neo CD, and if you look in the right places an AES isn't *that* expensive - heck, I remember this one guy had troubles selling his AES with 2 games for $160. That's only $10 more than a PS2! In retrospect, I really should've gone for it. The only thing expensive about the AES are some of the games, indeed. But there's still way more affordable games, too.
Have heard nothing I have heard nothing about this and I would consider myself pretty hooked in to the MVS and AES collector scene. Also, even if there are 20,000 AES carts somewhere, they are most likely not the real rarieties. In fact, there are a few collectors who have been able to obtain production numbers from SNK and games like MS1 on english AES were produced in quantities of a few hundred. 20,000 more copies of Magician Lord or Samurai Showdown will not have much impact on the value of the rare games.
If all the games had come out on NeoCD, then I'd have got one; even with the shitty loading times. But they didn't: no Metal Slugs past 1 and 2, no Blazing Star, Prehistoric Isle 2 and absolutely loads more. There really is no way cart prices are gonna drop. The only way to be able to play all the games for reasonable prices is MVS. Ok, so a consolised MVS costs more than an AES initially, but you'll easily save money.
Re: Have heard nothing As you can buy Samurai Spirits 1 for less then $10 if you look hard enough how cheap could it get? :-D They would have to give you money to take it or something.
What's the advantage to having a consolized MVS versus an arcade cabinet? Just seating position? I'd rather have the cabinet...just for neato factor.
