Has anyone tried it yet? I've played the first set of levels and found it very fun, not SO great as I expected though... there was too much hype about this game, but it is fun overall. I have yet to try the level editor, but it's amazing how you can solve the puzzles in so many ways, though alternately I always found myself ending up in using a pegasus or jetpack to grab the starlite, but that's because I'm a bit lazy. The start screen is nice, you have like a free play mode there, my weirdest combination of items was having Maxwell (main character) wearing a medieval armor, parachute, gatling gun and riding a pterodactyl. Add to that, the fact that I was shooting at hobos with the gatling gun. I've heard people comparing it to Drawn to life, haven't played that one so nothing to say 'bout that.
I've played it, I also found myself also using the jetpack alot by coincidence. I think besides the gimmick of being able to create your own items from a pre-set database, its basically a puzzle game similar to Lemmings. I actually found the interface a little clunky and the use of items limited even though there is a variety. This is the one game I think that would probably play better on an iphone as a $5 dollar or 1$ app as compared to a full priced DS purchase.
I use Wings instead of a jetpack Controls are pretty awful in my opinion, it really hurts the game. I was also expecting some sort of adventure mode, which was my bad but still. Fun, but flawed for sure.
I too am little dissapointed with this game. The controls are quite bad. All I want to do is enter my helicopter or pick up an item, but instead Maxwell runs off a damn cliff and gets killed by a damed fish! Fun when it works, though! Regarding everybody saying that they find themselves using the same items, they enourage you to play the levels 3 times each, but you aren't allowed to use the same items. Personaly, I like going back, so I'm forced to think.
Great original game but god maxwell is more uncoordinated then a drunk retard which really hurts the fun.
Yeah I experienced exactly that... a shame really. I agree with DeckardBR, it would work better as an iPhone game or even a DSi Ware title and not a full priced DS game. I also found that let's say 75% of the items are useless junk (mostly variations of food lol...). It is also a bit hard to guess what some characters want/need in some levels, for instance when you use the Time Machine, which usually takes you back to medieval times, I have no clue about what to do on that level nor what the characters want. Anyway I have yet to try the online mode to see how it is.
Based on what I've read, the time machine and teleporter levels are just transitory and don't actually have any sort of goal. The idea is that you can pick up items (or shanghai people) from those levels and bring them back to the place you left, which is where you're supposed to execute a solution. Haven't done it successfully myself, if only because dinosaurs don't appear to fit in the time machine.
I know nothing about this game. But after reading a bit on it, it sounds really fun. Can someone explain what its like a bit more to me though? Is it like one of those simple physics programs, but with built it commands, and the ability to make stuff similar to Spore, with functioning legs, etc?
You control a character named Maxwell who has to retrieve a star which is located somewhere in each of the levels. The player uses the program's keyboard to type in words for items that will help him get the item. Once he gets the star, he moves onto the next level, next challenge.
Oh, so its got built in words? Can you type magnet and then move metal objects closer to you or what? I imagine ladder and lasso are popular words.
Yes, actually you use it in one of the first levels. It has some fun logic for some levels, but ultimately you end up using some kind of flying object/animal, to retrieve the starlite. It has 2 modes (action and puzzle), in action mode you have to get to the starlite, in puzzle you have to solve the level's puzzle to make the starlite appear. You can also combine items such as a hook or pulley with a rope, or as I did on a level pterodactyl + rope + hook to lift an object I needed to move. It has a built in dictionary of ~20.000+ words, but many are variations of the same type of item (such as food variations) or sometimes different names for a same item. The game also has a level editor mode and online play (which I haven't tried yet). Anyway in my opinion it is fun, though not so much as I expected.
