http://www.arcadeshock.com/items/snk-capcom-sammy-hardware/list.htm?1=1 A little overwhelmed though plus this looks like it'll be expensive.
"Going NeoGeo" is kind of a broad statement too.. Are you going the fanatical AES collector route ? because if so then you might as well get sell your kids and get ready to be taken with no warning and definately no lube On the other hand you could go the much easier and cheaper MVS route by nabbing a decent x-slot Neo mobo and a basic supergun. Youll probably find a full setup with a couple of common games for a lot less then the prices on that site. MrS
I second going MVS. MVS is cheaper and money better spent if you are into collecting and playing the games. The AES has the whole complete console feel, but MVS offers the same gameplay for less money. I have a MVS board to use on my Supergun and it's great. The MVS board was 50$ at most including shipping cost.
Yeah it's just over whelming I saw they have a consolized MVS board but that's REALLY expensive. and mostly this will be for the shodown games and kofs.
Just remember that a consolized NeoGeo isn't economical because the same basic components could be used for a standard JAMMA supergun. The most expensive part and one you'd want to reuse would be the video encoder. Also if you can get an RGB monitor to play on, that takes out needing an expensive Video encoder board out of the equation. Unless you find a great deal on a consolized MVS, I think you'd do better to buy your own affordable MVS board and build a small bare bones Supergun. You could do this really easily if you buy a MVS board with controller ports and use NeoGeo controllers. Then all you'd need is to wire up power, sound, and a video encoder. I just can't stress enough, don't be taken in by the shiney pictures. Modded AES and consolized MVS aren't worth it most of the time. It's easier when you don't have the money to afford the stuff. But you can be short money to buy a fancy consolized system but still have enough to buy a MVS board and build a decent supergun or consolize it yourself.
There was this guy who did PC Engine Mods and also built Superguns but I lost his link. Maybe somebody here knows who that is. I might go with him and have him build me a supergun (since I have no tech savvy at all)
I agree w/MottZilla, the MVS is the best way to go if you want to simply play the games. Consolized MVS systems are always over priced, consolizing your own is pretty easy to do with minimal technical knowledge. As mentioned, you could alternatively buy a Super Gun (check neo-geo.com or arcade forums) and they can be had for much less than the cost of a consolized MVS. There's a D Lite NG Supergun on EBay right now, only at $20. Do a Google and you can find more info about it and other sources for purchasing one. Don't go AES
Bugger me, those prices are taking the piss. Going Neo Geo? Well you're several years too late for it to have much of an impact now. Even 8 years ago the Neo Geo was still the hardcore gamers machine, now it's like a machine that people buy to pretend they are hardcore gamers, 'Honest guv, been into Neo Geo since like day 1...' Consolised MVS systems are a waste of money for stupid money you get in effect $30 in parts tacked on to a MVS which probably costs er $60 if that. The AES route isn't too bad as most of the SS games can be picked up cheaply and the KOF games aren't too bad in price, MVS carts you just normally get the cart, which doesn't compare to the nice boxes of the AES. MVS shock boxes are for posers that like to pretend that they have a decent collection.
Doesnt help most of the people in the US without RGB who then need to buy a RGB compatible tv / monitor.
Then buy an RGB tv/monitor, it's much better then component, you don't buy a bluray player and use it on a 14" portable tv...
It'll be going into an HDTV though either S-Video or Component. geez this is mighty tempting too http://www.arcadeshock.com/items/sn...use-version-2-atomsyscons-hardware-detail.htm
HDTVs are not ideal for arcade gaming. Especially for any game out of spec, like most Midway games I can think of. Generally you want a real good CRT SDTV (Analog not digital) for arcade games and retro systems. If you do go through a HDTV Component is definitely what you want but just be prepared for some incompatibility. Though a HDTV that is CRT would probably do better than a LCD or Plasma for those finiky ones. D-Lite might not be taking Supergun orders at the moment. From what I've read recently he's been busy and hasn't had time. Though it might be possible to buy a SuperGun he might have sitting around. Either way you can get a great Supergun for the kind of money people want for AES or Consolized MVS. Seriously for what they want at that site you should just import a japanese supergun like sigma.
HDTV? Are you mad? Go get a Playstation 2 and buy the various SNK packs... Anyway $750 is taking the piss, for that money you could get a Atomiswave, a Supergun, a Neo Geo MVS system, 2 decent joysticks and gasp some games...
My HDTV is a CRT an LG CRT with some wierdness going on (since you know it's a CRT) You know every time I consider taking this pluge something always comes up that keeps me from doing it. once it was an impromptu trip to FL.
I do have just plunged into going Neo-Geo http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270148747116&sspagename=ADME:L:RTQ:US:1
