Just read the breaking headlines that Saints Row 4 is Refused Classification in Australia despite having a R18 Rating system in place. Bit of a joke really, now I'll be looking forward to the news that GTA V will suffer a similar fate. Shame really. If we wern't the laughing stock of the world of game ratings before this prety much confirms it now. EDIT - Spelling
Xbox 360 is region locked on most games not sure how SR4 will be but PS3 is region free so shouldn't be that much of a problem!
Its only region locked to NTSC, PAL or NTSC/J though. So you can import on xbox from any PAL country. In short, region locking in this instance is a non issue
That sucks, apparently Volition is going to edit it so it can be released. But what a stupid decision. http://news.cnet.com/8301-10797_3-5...4-banned-from-australia-over-sexual-violence/
Fuck it, good. I'm glad it's not coming to Australia, businesses here don't deserve the profit. Import it from the UK, be smart about it
Based on those two things, which wouldn't be permissible in an R18+ movie either, the justification is sound (though obviously I haven't played the game, so I can't say if their judgement is accurate). The way some people on the Intertrons are full-on losing their shit over this is hilarious though. I get that it sucks, I agree, but it's a game FFS. Um. Kay.
This is interesting. I've never heard of ESRB declining to rate a game AO. Though with how our system works, chances are any game that risky would be blatant enough from casual observation to not need a rating.
Yeah most people I know are going to do that. I have read a watered down version will be attempted to be classified but with the fact we have finally gotten an R18 rating that you would think we wouldn't have to resort to this again and to support our local retailers. Though impoting will be a lot cheaper.
It's like Mortal Kombat 9, it came out here when we got the R18+ classification. What I don't understand is why this is so different? This is one of the main reasons why I don't bother supporting games here at all. We get fucked over on everything, including the prices. I haven't bought a game from here locally in a long time.
Have you read the classification guidelines for R18+ for games? It's not free-for-all publish whatever you want situation. There are still restrictions on sexual violence and drugs as incentives. It's the same for R18+ movies. Even X18+, which only exists for movies, has some restrictions, mainly dealing with sexual violence.
True but most of the stuff that is being banned even with R18 is freely available to watch as M or MA15+ (especially the drug use). Even some PG shows sneak these themes in (Neighbours, etc).
Why do we need a VPN? Games sold in stores today are UK copies, usually cover art is just swapped around (some discs have UK ratings on them, but the art does not). However some games like GTA, got special releases with removed content. So it wouldn't matter if consumers imported the games from another PAL country, like UK and majority of Europe. I'm confused as to why everyone is losing their shit about this... When MK9 came out and GTA IV, everyone said fuck it, and imported the game from the UK and Hong Kong. Gamers in Australia should now understand we get cheated (many are aware but choose to complain anyway). We don't need other region consoles either...
we had to deal with this forever in germany but we can import uncut german games easy from austria. i remember, in germany we received a cut version of the first saints row, called "Saints Row BRD" which was only compatible to other BRD version for multiplayer, so i could never play it online, as there were no other players, lol.
