I've got bad back problems and I take oxycodone to knock it down.

It feels like being at the bottom of a well. It's terrible, and sick all the time from withdrawals.

I hate having to take this shit just to get through the day.

just had to get it off my chest

Any form of medication and depending on it is horrible, especially when you get side effects.

At the moment I'm depending on things to assist my bowel, I have some sort of issue and waiting for the procedure letter in the mail.
It's not helping with my anxiety and depression though, never been in a operating theatre.

Annoying thing is that you won't really stop thinking about the issue, so I understand why you had to vent about it.

Sorry to hear that, my sympathies. I sprained my back recently and I was basically unable to move around for a week, it was a nightmare; I can't imagine it being chronic.

Narcotics sure are annoying, but it's better to be in frequent withdrawals than to get addicted.

Hopefully you can manage to keep the pain under control in the future.

    @HEX1GON
Operations aren't that bad. You'll be sedated rapidly after getting in the OR, and your memory of before/after will be very groggy. If there's something you remember from it it's the recovery. I got operated thrice, for traumas mainly, and it was totally worth it each time.

Oxycodone (opiates in general) can be rather evil. Medicine like this works very well for pain, but routine use quickly builds up tolerance and dependence to the point that the more your body needs it, the less it works. If a doctor wants to prescribe you an "anti-opiate" like suboxone, do proceed with caution. That type can cause extreme dizziness and really bad nausea.

I check in with a 91-year-old WWII vet every now and then who has run into this type of problem.

Back pain -> Doctor writes oxy/morphine/perc/etc prescription -> [Prescription stops working -> Doctor A.) ups medication strength -or- B.) recommends detox] -> Repeat.

This is the loop he goes through. All throughout it, the fundamental problem causing the pain still exists and persists. All the while (at 91), he routinely has to go through the stress of detox/withdrawal.

Take it from a guy who's had two heart surgeries.

Surgery is always better than the meds. I was on 6 medications, 4 with sun warnings all over them. Going outside for any extended period of time was impossible. Eyes would hurt, skin would burn, I'd have extreme nausea. Now I'm down to two meds and it's wonderful. I feel human, not like the strange vampire creature I was for most of my life.

I do have to say, while I was recovering from surgery, the painkillers were terrible. I had such bad reactions that I simply stopped taking them and blacked out from pain on a few occasions. It was quite frankly better. I was essentially non-functional either way, so what was the point?

So yeah. I feel ya @ASSEMbler. Can't imagine what it'd be like long term, and I hope they can eventually right what ails ya.

I feel for you man. Oxycodone makes me so sick that I refuse to take it in situations where a painkiller is prescribed. It's good to see that you are doing what you can to avoid an addiction. I can't imagine how awful it is to have to keep going through withdrawal just to deal with getting through the day without developing a habit. Is there anything that can be done to address the root of your back issues vs just doping you up to keep the pain from stopping your daily life? If there is a surgery that has a reasonable chance of success then I'd have to agree with the others that it is the way to go. I hope you can figure something out and find some sort of relief so you can get off the treadmill of drugs and withdrawal.

Maybe you should check out a pain management doctor. The specialize in this type of thing.

My buddy's wife has gynecological cancer, she's in pain to the point that one of the things they tried was installing a pump in her body that injected methadone directly into her central nervous system. She was taking enough methadone to kill seasoned drug addicts. After her body rejected the pump a year later, they gave her a whole bunch of nasty pain meds to keep the pain in check. Instead of taking those her husband started giving her medical cannabis concentrates. She's now way past the life expectancy the Dr. gave her, she looks great and acts like a champ. Best of all, she's not taking a single pain pill now.

I know it's a touchy subject, but it's amazing how well it's working.

I hope this can all be a distant memory for you someday, Assembler. Take care bud

i know lots of people that medical cannabis has helped out a ton with their pain and other problems, like my grandfather who can only sleep a few hours each night he tried it and slept 16+ hours. Honestly it's just the people who abuse it for "medical" reasons that give it a bad rap.

For pain you'd be more into high CBD strains vs high THC strains which generally just get ya good and stoned rather than alleviate ailments. Although that's better than nothing. Abusing it for medical reasons giving it a bad rap is such a load of nonsense. It is one of the most harmless substances on the planet yet is still illegal due to morons still believing 1930's propaganda.

I don't want to devolve this thread into a flame war or anything as I'm 100% for legal recreational use of cannabis I was just saying that everyone going to "doctors" to get prescribed for "medical" cannabis just makes it seem like the whole thing is a huge joke to most people and that it has no actual medical uses and people are just getting the prescriptions to get high on it legally.

Sorry, I was more talking about the notion, not really directed at you or trying to argue with you. My apologies sir. No flame war desired. Personally, I just want Assembler to find some relief and peace.

    Thanks for the kind words.

I go through the withdrawals because I intentionally don't take extended doses. I don't want the resistance, nor the dependency.

I'll have to do some research on the high CBD extracts, sadly the area I live has no medical exemption. I'd have to travel to try it.

Thanks for listening, it can feel like an inner scream at times, the frustration.

I think we can all agree that most pain killers, even prescribed, are a bigger public healthcare issue than pot.

That said, I too wish Kev to get better and hopefully be able to treat the underlying cause of his ailment so he doesn't need anything to get through a day.

Dude, if you were closer I'd invite you over. My spouse was in a car accident and is taking it for his back pains, you could try whatever you needed.

I mean I don't know where you live I just assume it's not the west coast of Canada, lol.

Have you gone through physical therapy for it? You would be amazed what the right stretches and exercises can do for a screwed up back.

Ah sorry, didn't realize that you had been augmented.

No, but stretching the nerves and muscles around the back can help fix or alleviate pain. Sometimes you just need a little stretch to pop a disk back in place.
