Okay I Tsop'd the Xbox I scored over the weekend after fixing issues with trace "cancer".

I used a great tutorial I found on IsoZone, it uses the mem card / splinter cell method and Hexen disc.

I softmodded it. Then booted the Hexen disk, flashed the bios, removed the soft mod and installed XBMC all from the disc, I just need to get a large Hdd for it now and use the Hexen disc again to set it up.

Makes me wonder why I and others are scared of the Tsop, it's probably all the horror stories from people when their flashing went awry.

To do my first Xbox I need to switch out the DVD drives because no way will it read a burned DVD, it just says drive empty, it reads original disks fine, the funny thing is the Tsop'd Xbox has a Thompson and the one that won't read anything a Phillips.

Only warning I give softmod to TSOP users is: you might boot to a black screen after the bootup animation. This is only because softmods work differently when booting a custom dashboard, this can easily be fixed by running AID, Slayers Rescue Disc and other dash install discs.

So other than that, you've done well. Any talk of doing modifications to a motherboard many get scared, I myself was the same. It's a very straight forward mod though, easier than a modchip.

I switched out the DVD drives so I could mod my V1.4 Xbox, it was a breeze using the Hexen Engineering Disc even though it has a Winbond chip, I then used the disc to restore the C drive to pre-softmodded state and boot straight to XBMC.

Now both my Xbox's are Tsop'd and working fine.

You know you can TSOP straight away, right?

There is no need to use a soft mod as an intermediate step.

It was already soft modded, he then decided to tsop it - therefore removing the softmod once he was done, as it was no longer needed.

Mine was already soft modded as Bad_Ad84 said.

But how do you TSOP without using an exploit?

You can't - but you can directly flash the TSOP from the exploit, there is no need to install a soft mod on the hard drive.

That's what I thought, I did that with my first one and then used the Hexen disc to upgrade the Hdd.

I just wanted to add my 2 cents here. I think one of the best reasons for doing a TSOP flash is the fact that you do not need to lock the hard drive. So changing hard drives in the future is so much easier!

They way I do TSOP flashing is solder the motherboard points and install the hard drive. Then I install my extra mod chip (in my case X3) with a solderless adapter and just boot from Hexen and it will build the hard drive for me and the rest is just going thru the normal install.

I do my soft mods that way also. Install the mod chip and solderless adapter and boot with deluxe XBMC installer. When done I remove the mod chip.
