A friend of mine gifted me a small PAL tv with SCART input. I've tried to connect both a Super Famicom and a modded PAL Megadrive but both show the same issue, i.e. basically undiscernible video. Both consoles are working when connected to a different monitor, and I've tried some 3-4 different cables with the Super Famicom. No differences. I guess the "undiscernible video" bit *might* confirm the SCART plug is actually equipped with RGB (otherwise I wouldn't be able to see anything, right?) and the first thing I thought was maybe something is wrong with sync... but obviously I'm not sure and anyways I would like to make everything work, assuming the TV is actually compatible that is. Any suggestions?
sounds like it only supports 50hz signals. Don't know why the megadrive isnt working though. as always, images of the problem usually helps identify if its sync issues or otherwise.
Do you have capacitors in the RGB lines? A lot of European spec TVs have DC coupled RGB inputs on the SCART socket and won't work without caps in the line.
@AtomizerZero I will try an Amiga600 as soon as possible, with that it should be easy to check if it's a 60hz compatibility issue. Will report back with images in case of failure with 50hz standard/default video (I assume that would imply a different issue) @TriMesh I have no idea honestly, I'd have to check each cable; I will look into that as well! Thanks guys
Wow, I feel soooo dumb! Problem solved: I incorrectly assumed the TV would automatically switch to SCART-RGB mode, while for some reason it doesn't... just selecting channel 0 finally showed a working picture. Now I have a slightly different issue with the old TV set, but for that I am opening a brand new thread. Thanks again.
