LOL at em for thinking they can pull of an OoT HD from almost scratch. You would be much more wise to start by editing Twilight Princess. Suppose OoT 3D wasn't good enough for those people. Hyrule Total War doesn't look too shabby.OoT or MM mods are always fruitless if anyone has ever completed one I've never seen it. Ura Zelda (odd tittle choice) is the best one I have come across and had some real production values. That bit the dust too. Never delved through 2D Zelda mods (not counting the few that make BS Zeldas playable), but I imagine people have done wonderful things with ALttP. Unrelated but I think I saw you when ZSO was still around.

Ocarina of Time HD has an Ura's chance of seeing fruition. Also, I'm not liking the whole Twilight Princess aesthetic they got going on; I felt the graphics in OoT3D kicked ass since they upgraded the graphics yet kept the feel of the original game and artwork.

It is a shame that virtually every major Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask hack dies, and it's always similar drama; the only complete OoT hack I can think of is Zelda's Birthday. In particular, one hack that I was super looking forward to was Izou Zelda, but then Flotonic decided to quit the Internet again. (Flotonic said he was passing off Izou to another team, but there's been no news about it since the pass-off.) Oh well, if nothing else, at least there was a demo patch released, which is quite more than can be said of most OoT/MM projects.

What they plan to do with the oot Hd engine is when they done making it they will use it to remake other Zelda games. These guys have been able to pull off a bunch of play as mods http://forums.zelda64.net/topic/10279825/1/. Before Flotonic left he was able to import some textures from oot 3d into the debug rom.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEhyJMyRbcs&list=UUMB50h1gwnZPPE797CUWfRw

Ura Zelda was actually supposed to be an expansion of oot. There is already a topic on this here http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...a-Zelda-64DD-Zelda-Gaiden&highlight=ura+zelda

    and here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9upeK5hkvbU

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRcuFNIm7E0

other than Zelda's birthday and izou there have been a few others. voyager of time https://www.the-gcn.com/voyageroftime/, four swords multiplayer, petrie's challenge, and this http://www.moddb.com/mods/zelda-gaiden-expansion btw this isn't Zelda gaiden really but there are different enemy placements like a moblin in kokiri forest!!

As far as oot 2d is concerned, it isn't a mod of alttp and it wasn't made with any game maker program it uses a custom engine. This one looks like it will actually be completed since the other attempts of oot 2d didn't get this far. Everything until you defeat queen gohma is finished. What is interesting that in the sections you have to aim up, it goes into a side perspective and a targeting system a la Yoshi's island. This project is worth checking out http://www.oot-2d.com/

btw I was never on ZSO

Take my advice and do not hold your breath for their HD remakes.I am familiar with Ura Zelda (and YuriofWind makes subpar videos), but I think there was conceit in using that name for their mod. How long are the completed OoT projects? Anything shorter than 2 hours is not an achievement. I get that mods are difficult (I can't make them myself), but I am comparing the 3D Zelda modding scene with what other groups have pulled off. I wish they would move on to a newer game to use a more flexible engine, but I imagine its enticing to use a game that has been documented more.

A few years ago a guy was making a Super Mario World mod using Lunar Magic into a Zelda platformer game called The Seeds of Time, but after a while the project pretty much disappeared. He had a sword and bombs working and the game looked really good, too good to be a fan mod in fact, but I don't know if any footage of the game exists online anymore. By far one of the best Super Mario World mods I'd ever seen, a real shame to see it die, I wouldn't be surprised if he was hit with a C&D order.

That SMW mod looks neat! The modification's Yoshi is odd though. Aren't there dozens of SMW fan works? Why would this one get them in hot water?

Hacking the Zelda games beyond ALttP doesn't seem to be a very big thing in general. And for OoT/MM in particular, you have too many newbies, relatively speaking, who're using not very user-friendly tools, going off incomplete documentation, and too few knowledgeable people researching and documenting the games, programming new tools, etc. And that's not even factoring in the annual drama (7+ years and counting!), which has driven away at least some of the latter group of people, myself included. Adoption of the few, newer tools and documentation that exists also appears to be a problem, with many people ex. still hanging onto Utility of Time, which hasn't been in development for over four years.

That said, some strides, or, well... more like small steps, have been made regarding Wind Waker and, to a lesser extend, Twilight Princess (GCN) in recent years. Not really any "big" projects just yet, neither in terms of mods nor tools, but steady progress documenting things, some tools being written based on that documentation, etc... Wind Editor is a project to keep an eye on, I'd say.

I don't think any SMW hack came as close to mimicking a Zelda game as this one did, I couldn't see any reason to just disappear other than the fact that it was just too close to a real Zelda game for its own good. An amazing achievement though especially in the SMW community, a shame it never saw the light of day.

Sorry about that, when you said that ura was a weird name for the project it sounded like you never heard of it. I was just trying to give a shoutout for these guys and maybe someone would like to help out. I realize that Zelda 64 modding isn't that successful but the Zelda gaiden restoration and the team beta triforce projects have made more progress than other attempted mods. I understand too that it isn't easy doing this either. I have tried some of the tools and they they aren't user friendly at all. The only programs I could easily use is the text and ocarina song editor. I think I could see a 3ds texture pack being possible which is being worked on now. Since someone actually made a model viewer for oot 3d and you can use it to dump the textures.

The hd remake might have a little more of a chance since the guy working on it told me he is using the unity engine.

Their oot 2d definitely has good chances of being completed.

There is a interesting mod for oot that someone tried to remake alttp with but it got cancelled because the guy said it was too much work. What he did finish does look impressive.

Out of curiosity, what other tools did you try? Just wondering because I've been trying to make my tools (not just OoT ones, but in general) user-friendly, but I never know if I succeed with it or not, little feedback being one reason for that.

...and it's probably a mistake I ever made that, considering 1) the drama with a certain someone and 2) how everyone's just like "let's port OoT3D stuff into OoT!" now.

What is the deal with Zelda modders and petty fighting? It has become a cliche at this point. Hope they get their act together one day. WW's stylized look might be a barrier for modders unless they don't bother trying to make their work look right. At the end of they day I am delighted the newer games are being opened up. I feared the world would be stuck using OoT forever.

The ones I found were scroll of time and pierre's ocarina studio.

Now I think about it is a bit redundant to use oot for mods unless you are restoring things from the beta.

I forgot to mention this but one of these guys knows Grant Kirkhope.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Zelda games seem to be coded in such a way that it must be a nightmare to make any reasonable hack out of them. It almost seems like it would be impossible to reduce the games to their raw constituents and use the engine for your own creations, just by how random and haphazardly they were put together.

An LttP tool I've tried to mess around with is called Hyrule Magic. There is also another one called Black Magic.

Huh? Unless you mean in real life, I don't think that is impressive as it is somewhat common for him to interact with his fans.

I'll post about that when I find out. I forgot about that until I looked at this thread again.

Anyway, I have a update for Izou. It is now no longer a rom hack, it will be running on a custom 3d engine.

I have also found another OOT mod that is being worked on right now and has very good chances of being completed. http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFuzXTpcLyo8TuZNaWwNMnA

He has done a lot. He's made young epona rideable, you can equip the fishing rod, there are 6 tunics to equip, he has made it so that areas load instantly and there is no delay with the pause screen. He has also replaced navi with some sort of a cat thing, and made the arrows function the same way as in the original Legend of Zelda. Finally when you load a saved game you don't spawn in Link's house or the temple of time, you spawn in the same area where you saved.

The more they do from scratch the less likely it is for them to finish. I had forgotten about airikita, if anyone has potential using OoT it's him. Modding in OoT will always be severely restrained not only by the feebleness of N64 hardware, but also the archaic way the game was put together. It won't make much of a difference if community gets better the game is just too outdated.

I checked with the guy, he knows Grant Kirkhope mostly through occasional email and facebook. He has seen him a few times at e3 and he has taught him how to make good music.

Could he get Grant to release the prototype songs he promised? Banjo Kazooie tracks were shared, but he was going to release Tooie ones and I'm still waiting.
