I don't think he has that kind of influence on him. This is exactly what he told me "ive known him just throu email and websites ive only seen him personally at some interviews at the E3 events and stuff but now we sometimes talk on facebook because im back where i live"

Here are a few new things I found.

Apparently some of these guys have been receiving death threats and one of them is going to leave the community because of this among other reasons.
http://forums.zelda64.net/topic/10486185/1/ This is the first time I have heard of this. I can't imagine who would give death threats over a game that came out in 1998??!!

A 3ds texture pack is being made right now and it looks amazing. It's a mixture of the 3ds and HD textures. http://forums.zelda64.net/topic/10473840/1/

And JSA is now working on Zelda's Birthday 2 due to increasing popularity of Zelda's Birthday. http://forums.zelda64.net/topic/10489759/1/

That OoT modding community might be dead now. Take my advice and don't get attached to it. From my experience OoT modders are wired to sabotage their forums. Death threats over the web tend to be bluffs The 3DS textures are nice.

If you ever want to see an explosion in the modding of games with no official tool set, someone needs to create the tools themselves. Zelda modding, in general, doesn't go too far due to the fact that the editors currently available for it are lacking & a mess to work to with, which is unfortunate.

When I first saw this thread, I was hoping it would have a new ALTTP hack, but doubted it as Hyrule Magic (the only released editor) is notoriously difficult to work with. Shame too, because I love the engine powering ALTTP. Black Magic, another editor, seemed to drop off the map, as well.

Surprised a fully-fledged editor for OOT hasn't been created yet, seeing as how overly popular it is. Building tools to read someone else's baby isn't always an easy task, however. Neither is using the tools to create a complete modification. Hell, we are still barely just getting some decent SNES game editors/information!

That SMW hack looks incredibly awesome, by the way. Surprised I haven't seen it till today. Too bad it seems dead.

I imagine making tools for an archaic 3D game is harder than a 2D game. As far as I'm aware it took many years to get the tools they already have, and XDaniel (the person making them) got fed up their attitude and quit. Energy put in OoT is energy wasted, better to open up a more capable game no?

Well, I wasn't the only one making tools, nor could I have made mine without the knowledge of the hackers and coders that came before me, like cooliscool (Utility of Time) or spinout, to name just two. But I guess I might've been the most prolific one in recent years?

Regardless, yes, I am fed up with the attitude, distrust and overall drama that's been plaguing the so-called "community" around OoT/MM for the last 10 years. That, coupled with how comparatively difficult it is to modify the game without breaking all kinds of stuff, is why I more or less ragequit - cancelled a model converter that I wanted to expand into a new map creation tool, for example. The source code for that is out there (C#), so if anyone would want to pick it up again they could, but I don't think there's very many coders left in that scene, especially not C# ones... And while I haven't officially cancelled SceneNavi (my latest OoT, and very recently MM, level editor), I'm not exactly inclined to really be working on it anymore, either.

If anyone asked me what game is interesting to modify, what game's ROM hacking scene they should look into, I would say that OoT and MM are interesting for sure, but the "community" around them is one of the worst I've ever seen, and I would not advise anyone to get involved with it. There's some genuinely passionate people in that scene, but they alone do not outweigh the amount of bullshit that surrounds it.
