I was at work today looking around on the computers when I stumbled across two games in the database. :D

    Akira SNES (N-16)
    XREF - 000006204135
    UPC- 758739230082

    Akira (GCD) Sega CD
    XREF- 000006204101
    UPC - 785138360010

Doesn;t the fact that they have UPCs mean that they were about to be released? Does anyone have anymore information, maybe have them? ;-)

If anyone happens to have them and might want to sell...let me know! :smt023

Those games were never finished, they had a quick preview of it and one screenshot of the snes version, but it was never released.

well it was actually in an old egm, but the screenshot doesnt tell much about the game, its one quick scene that looks like there being chased some way but its really hard to make out what is happening based on the sprites and the backgroun of the scene, it was being made by thq, as for that egm, sadly i threw that one out, but your not missing much based on the single screen shot which looked like the snes version.

Well if it was by THQ then it must have been shite. All of their 16 bit stuff was rubbish.

I remember seeing the snes and segacd screenshots:
    SNES:
There where an elevator (big one) with several peoples in white with machine guns and a sort of blockhaus near the elevator (well, something quite promising).

    Segacd:
Was a racing game with Akira's Motocycle performing a jump.
Some scalled buildings and a crap "3d" road.
This screenshot looked very crap in comparaison of games like batman returns on segacd...

  8. Wasn't there also an Akira title slated for release on the NES/Famicom? That license seems to carry some sort of curse when it comes to videogame adaptations... a pity too, as the story from the anime alone is tailor-made for a game - bike races, battles against the clown gang and the military, the final showdown between Tetsuo and Kaneda...

Yes there was and it was also released in Japan. Here's two pictures of it running on my TV that I just took.

I still think the moved rocked the house. I always loved how most anime geeks thought it was bad b/c it was so commercial. The soundtrack, bar none -- is the best for any movie out of Japan, ever. Those cats still perform live from time to time. I recommend Gaia Ecophony if you want to hear some of their other good shit.

Oh, yeah -- there is Akira Psycho Pinball on the PS2 if anyone cares.

That brings me to another strange thing I found yesterday, I can order Akira Psychoball...
I am in the US and the game was only released in Japan and the UK, and my company does not deal with import games at all! It was listed at $39 and was produced by "AIA" I think. Should I order it and see if it comes? Maybe its a US verson that was produced and canceled, and they have something mix up and are selling, but only by order?
    (I know I'm getting my hopes up :( )

I'd go for it. You never know, it might actually turn up. And if it does then you'll have one rare game then in a few years you'll have people throwing alsorts of cash at you trying to get it :)

I am. :) It might be like all these US versons of NGPC games that were never officialy released turning up at Lik-Sang and EBGames 2 years ago. (Last Blade and a few other US releases that never made it out)

I'll order it next time I go in. It wasnt on backorder or anything, that tells me that they should have stock of them...so it should only take a week to get to me. I'll order one to start with, and if it does turn up I'll order quite a few. ;)

That looks like a shot from the Amiga game...I've heard from a couple of people that the SNES and the SegaCD games were going to be different...

The Akira Psychoballs wouldn't be coming from AIA themselves but my comapnys warehouse....so you never know, maybe they got some!

akira has the potential to be a great game :"(

  19. Ah okay, I couldn't remember if it was released in Japan or not, but I do remember the stories of it having a fate similar to Earthbound here in the 'states. What sort of game is it, and is it any good? I'm a huge fan of the movie, so I might look into picking it up if it's decent enough.

And GP, I definately loved it. It's true that there are a lot of the anime nerds today who downplay it, but if it weren't for the revolutions that movie made in anime production, a lot of the series said nerds hold so dear would look a LOT different.

Indeed... not only that, their tribe of nerds would be several members shorter I'm convinced.
