Over the last year I've heard many complaints about people such as my self who buy retro games in Japan then sell it in the west. These comments are always aimed towards that we make some sort of killing on every item we sell and that we are ripping people off. I normally say fuck it and just ignore such stupid crap but today I decided to post a picture to prove that the big name games in Japan aren't as cheap as people "know" they are. Just take a look at this !! Radiant Silvergun for 25000 yen !! That's 120 GBP / 175 Euros / 213 USD. This picture was taken on the 29th January 2006 So next time you want to complain about so called inflated prices on retro games, think back to this picture. True that this Radiant Silvergun is a bit more expensive than what it normally costs in Japan but not that much more. Rant over. Yakumo
I honestly don't think most of the prices for import games are that expensive. Probably because I remember the old days of import prices. You have to admit though it probably didn't help the perception when you posted that retro gaming in japan article on your website. Perhaps it's time for an update?
yeah I guess the retro gaming in Japan section doesn't help but surly the idiots who complain can see that I've never once sat top rare items such as RSG, Elevator Action Returns, Battle Garegga are cheap. Only common stuff is dirt cheap with the exception of the odd bargain which have to be looked for. Yakumo
Before I reply, let it be known that I only own 3 imported games, and they are pretty common. I've not once believed that prices for most imported games are unreasonable. If I ever look for something on eBay, it's usually at about what I expected to pay for it (and that's eBay!). People should also take into consideration the shipping charges, not to mention the time you take to package and ship this stuff out. The only time I've believed the price for a game was unreasonable is if it's around $200 to begin with. I'm not paying that amount for a fucking disc and manual.
You see, I know Import games are gunna be more expensive. I dont expect cheap. All the people who think that they will be dont realize how much shipping is for even 1 simple package, let alone the game itself. If the game is expensive, so be it. Thats the market value for it.
Well, Yakumo i think you don't have to prove it to nobody. Anybody who collects games know some stuff are more expensive and some not. By the way, as soon as i get my paypal account back on track, i'll probably order some stuff from you.
No avoiding it... it's comes with the territory. Dig through the Yahoo Japan thread and you'll see someone accusing me of scalping from YJ after I moved to Hawaii. Just like you have to do w/ 80% of the human population, and 95% of the online population, ignore and move on. You will be happy you did.
Any time someone is prepared to go out of their way to provide you with import games, you cease to be able to complain about the prices. Time is money and if you can't afford it then don't pay for it.
I hope nobody here is under the impression that importers like Yakumo make a killing... It's a supply and demand thing. If games are soooo cheap in Japan yet worth soooo much money here, everybody and their cousin would be selling games out of Japan...which they aren't. Sigh, I wish they were cheaper though...then maybe I could get an "in" in Japan and expand my paltry PC Engine and Neo Geo collections...
The margin now is pretty low -- like 20%...something like a real business, but when you're not selling a lot of pieces like a real business (500+ a month) the money you get for the time is change.
That is true. By the time I have enough spare change to buy Dragon Quest IV remake for the PSX it will be pretty rare and expensive...
well said. Even from all these Radirgy and Under Defeat I'm selling I still won't be making enough money to buy a new 360 or even half a 360 and that's with a LOT of orders ! Yakumo
