so wait...and im a little confused...i have the us version of sonice mega collection...are they making a new one with newer games......and im not talkin bout the rereleased ps2/xbox version...oh wait..........nvm..i remember reading that they are making a new one......stupid idiot i am
From the looks of it, Sonic Fighter and Sonic R are somewhat cleaner then the PC, Saturn, and Arcade (For Sonic Fighters) versions (Hopefully, they will also release Knuckles Chaotix to make it a complete collection). Still, the collection does seem like a despirate attempt for Sega to gain back some cash after a lousy year of Mediocre games. Sonic CD was actually going to be on the first Sonic Collection, but Sega was too lazy at the time to fix the audio problems with the Genesis/CD emulator, and cut it. Also, you can see it on a early Sonic Mega Collection menu: http://sonic-cult.net/dispart.php?catid=3&gameid=11&subid=1&artid=4 (Pictures of the menu) http://sonic-cult.net/dispart.php?catid=3&gameid=11&subid=1&artid=1 (Explenation of why it was cut)
Never knew that Sonic CD was planned for the Mega Collection. Now with Sonic Gems were getting it plus several other highly sought after games, but its still far from a definative collection of Sonic games. Maybe/hopefully next gen well a complete collection of (the worthwile) sonic games all running in their proper resolutions (hey, I can dream can't I?)
Sonic CD was cut from the first Gamecube release not due to emulation problems but due to simple size concerns. The Gamecube disc couldn't fit it along with all the other crap they had piled on. -hl718
You could fit EVERY Sonic game on to a DVD based console with ease. That's why I'm pissed off at Sega for squeezing every last penny out of the true Sonic fan. The first Sonic Collection should have had Every Sonic game. The cartridge games (Mega Drive, Master System and Game Gear all put together would weigh in at no more than 15 Meg I bet. Take out Sonic CD's CDDA and convert it to ADX and save yourself another 300 Meg of space. same goes for Sonic R as well. To me the best Sonic collection ever was Sonic Jam for the Saturn. I love the actual Sonic World which adds so much more to it rather than going through a load of menus. Yakumo

Lesson learned: Don't always believe everything a giant company who is in financial trouble says, hl718.
It's not quite as simple as you seem to think it is Jason. You'll just have to trust me on this one as I'm not spouting from a press release here. Yakumo is correct that if it had been DVD media it would have been fine, but going with the Cube the smaller media size did cause issues with the first disc. Yakumo> You do realize that the Sonic World level on Sonic Jam was actually the remnants of one of the X-Treme engines, right? Neat little bit of trivia methinks. -hl718
Well, I still call bullshit on it. Seeing as how they were able to fit 2 extra games in the Japanese release, as well as 2 3D games, Sonic CD, and every sonic game that was released on the GG/Master system in the sequel, I dare say they could have easily put Sonic CD in the first collection if they spent more time on it.
I think they should just freaking redo Sega CD in 3D on Xbox or GameCube and get rid of all the dumb crap that plauged sonic adventure, and just have most of the game be cool races, jumping, etc...a 3d race with Metal Sonic? wouldn't that be awesome? I mean, green hills in SA2 was fun. Freaking mega collection plus should have had sonic cd, and shouldnt have had retarded unlocking things in it. THEY SHOULD ALSO freaking finish sonic Xtreme and release the son of a bitch in a collection or something, at least make a demo, or put freaking sonic world on this new collection, because not many people have saturn. I have one, but I can never find sonic jam for a good price. rant rant rant rant.
I really find it confusing when people say that Sonic X-Treme was turned into Sonic World, as this is completely false - has anyone claiming this actually compared the two? For example, anyone with the slightest knowledge of X-Treme's development will know that it was the work of the US-based Sega Technical Institute, and Yuji Naka (Sonic Team) fell out with SOA - in particular Bernie Stolar - when he gave STi the NiGHTS engine code for their project. Also, it seems that Naka was so unsupportive of X-Treme because he had his own new Sonic title in production, which was ironically also codenamed Sonic X-Treme (although this has never confirmed officially as even a working title). The game created by STi changed platform at least three times (starting on an upgraded version of the BUG! engine on the 32X, later moving to the Saturn before using the NiGHTS engine and finally a self-produced engine) and nearly featured bonus stages designed with the "Sphere Renderer" engine that Peter Morawiec had come up with for Travellers Tales to include in their Saturn version of Sonic 3D before Sonic Team offered their own idea of remaking the Sonic 2 special stages - another case of internal politics within Sega, which wasn't exactly uncommon at the time! As complex as this may seem, it would be easy enough for someone to fabricate a decent timeline of all the co-inciding Saturn-era Sonic projects, as has already been done with the troubled development of Sonic 2 and its many "lost" levels. Meanwhile, Project Sonic Phase One became Sonic Jam, but before that it was also the name for a free-roaming Saturn adventure game (you may recall that Phase Two was Sonic R). Although the first result of this project was the Sonic World level of Sonic Jam, it's been long rumoured that Sonic Team also had other stages running under the same engine, with a snow-themed area and a larger version of the Sonic World section often described (the latter stemming from an ability to break out of the standard Sonic World area in which you can find leftover floor sections). Of course, putting all their ideas into a Saturn title was pointless, as Sonic Team knew about Sega's next console as far back as the beginning of 1997 before Sonic Jam was even ready for a release. Predictably, they rushed this out and finished Burning Rangers - albeit without much regard for its quality, despite giving the whole game a last minute visual overhaul - before moving to the Dreamcast. Unless you really think of Sonic X-Treme as being a Sonic Team project, it would be more accurate to say that it became Sonic Adventure as opposed to Sonic World.
