I'm looking for the 12v power adapter used on the debug PS1s. If I don't find one soon/cheap I will just replace the psu with one from a 100x model...

Does anyone have a spare debug blue parallel port cover? Hell has been a little cold lately...

Also after a blue parallel port cover. Obviously op takes priority, but if another pops up - saves making another thread.

The original PSUs are very rare without the systems. I've seen them several times and even bought one which was listed as used PSU without any model number in the description but the chances to get one are slim. Check the PSUs from Sony laptops. You can find 12V PSU with the same connector and use it with your system. The covers are impossible to get and I still can't understand why so many are missing. Who and how used this port?...

Its been reported that the ZA12001GN power supply is compatible. They are only available as 3rd party repos. Do you know what sony laptop PSU used the same plug? I thought it was specific to the debugs...

A bit off topic from the thread but the answer is debugging. With something like a goldfinger we could get access to coms/tty logs, push new elf that uses the disc for data and if I remember right we could even do crash logs but my memory might be a bit fuzzy (it has been 14 years).

We used gold finger if my memory serves me correctly but you can also use some versions of gameshark as well. Doing some quick google work I think we were using the caetla rom (I wasn't the person who originally set it up so my memory is fuzzy on this bit).

Sometimes in development it was easier/faster to burn a CD with all your data on it then use this to push a new elf to test code changes while you were working.

The MPA-AC1 works - it's apparently actually a power supply for a digital camera, but it's rated at 12V 3A and has the correct plug.

Caetla will work with any of the older Action Replay/Game Shark carts - the innumerable Goldfinger carts are basically all copies of the Action Replay 1.9x hardware, so they work too. There are a couple of things to watch out for, though - the first is that although the connector on the back of the cart looks like a 25-pin parallel port plug it isn't - it was designed to connect to a special ISA I/O card that plugged into your PC. The later (like V3) AR hardware does connect to a parallel port, but Caetla doesn't support it. Another thing to watch is that some of the later Goldfinger type clone carts have the connector installed but not the chip to drive it - presumably the makers decided that nobody was using it any more and removed the buffer IC to save manufacturing cost.

The other option is the Xplorer/Xploder/Xterminator carts - these are supported by Caetla and also have a LPT compatible port on them. You still need a fairly old PC that has a real parallel port, but that's a lot easier than finding a machine that has ISA slots and the comms link card for the older ones.

Note that you don't need a debug console to use these - they will upload code fine on a regular retail, although you won't be able to read data from CD unless you install a mod chip.

I used an ISA card in my work PC. I remember this because when I started I had to get my PC swapped for not having an old ISA slot still. =)

Also I know that these work on retail, We used a few on retail units as well that were chipped. Just we also had to run on the blue units frequently as well and I'm pretty sure now it was over it having the older GPU and none of the other chipped PS1 we had were the first model. I mostly worked on late stage PS1 titles (2002-2004) and I remember that we had to make sure the game was identical on first gen ps1, later gen ps1 and on ps2 for submission.

Anyways it's nice to see more info on them in detail, it's really been a long time ago. =/
