Nah, I had a semi-professional Marantz portable minidisc recorder provided by my work. I also had access to a hi-end Sony rack mount unit. On a recording trip I did in France I took along a small portable Sony MD and it was terrible to work with. Never used it again. I bet it's still kicking about in the attic! The batteries were awful, the 3.5mm stereo jack for mic input was rubbish and often gave mono (and no, it wasn't me selecting mono for longer recording length in the menu) and the minidiscs themselves were hellish to then take back and edit from. The Marantz was better as it had XLR inputs for mic, the battery did weigh a tonne, but you could get a good 45mins out of it, but I was still left with the bloody editing from disc. Anyway, back on topic! :icon_bigg
Some daft sod at the radio station ordered minidisc to replace DAT recorders. They also fitted the studio with them, the field recordings were all done in MD, the editing had to be done with MD (Sony software - argh!) and then played on air with MD units! Personally I would have preferred to use DAT and then play the finished product on MD - access times being the key with MD. Labeling each stab or jingle was a God send! That way the MDs could be loaded into the players and NOBODY touch them! I would have kept DAT as the editing option direct to Pro-Tools or whatever was available, but as usual with these things nobody really asked the people who were using the units to test them first.
Well it couldn't handle my little brother going nuts over it with a nail when he was younger. >_< And the battery cover braked really easy. Not to mention that I knew lots of people with messed up screens.
360 Drive problem My 360 just developed a problem with its drive, when i switch it on it won't read disks straight off. I have to open and close the drive between 20 and 100 times for it to register games :crying: If GTA Lost & Damned hadn't just come out i'd consider getting a PS3.
Weird I never experienced this myself, a guy I know who was a daily MD user also had this happen to him but only once AFAIK Paranoia update! The DVD drive on my Sony VAIO laptop had to be replaced in less than 6 months, stopped reading cd's.
hopefully with the PS4 Sony will introduce the Red-Ray. Or maybe they'll just skip to the highly advanced Green-Ray.
Actually, Red Lasers are CD and DVD, Blue Lasers are for HDDVD and Bluray. Green lasers will come later and they do exist I think and they are the next step once they've made all the money they can off Blu-ray.
I know this problem well. When I had that problem my laser was dying. I bet you also have a Hitachi drive in your 360 console. If you still have a warenty MS can fix your drive without a problem. If not then Divineo sells that replacement laser for around $30 plus shipping (last time i bought my replacement). James
Honestly I've just had trouble with older sony products, such as two PS1s and a couple of disk drives I've used for PCs. They just don't last long. However I've had no problems with the disc drives on either of my PS2s or my PS3.
