First we had the "spiderman" style logo on the left And its Greatest Hits, Platinum and The Best/Big Hit releases Then we got the improved and way better PS3 logo at the top And it's Greatest Hits, Platinum, The Best/Big Hit releases Then the Essentials and Favoritos Now Sony did another, yet small change: The top black banner is now a blue banner, similiar to the PSVita and PS4 Shelf confusion at best! Plus i'll never understand why the different "Greatest Hits" versions for every region.
Thats stupid. It will just lead to product confusion. I dont see an upside, no corporate "synergy" crap either.
As a person who's worked in retail for over 5 years (albiet not with video games,) I could totally see this doing more harm than good. Classic move of trying to tie all your products together with the same design elements. Mostly it will lead to customers picking up the right game for the wrong console.
I can understand trying to make them "similar" to have a family of products branding but that is way too confusing for the average non-gamer to follow. think of how many exchanges will happen now do to the parents buying the wrong system game.
Microsoft did the same thing, the 360 logo looks similar to the XBOX ONE. Even though the cases are completely different.
I liked the Spiderman font of the eerier "PLAYSTATION 3" era.. The days of empty white rooms and levitating $600 consoles that were completely overshadowed by the Wii. This isn't too surprising, though. PS3 has had more facelifts and identity changes than almost any other console. It honestly just seems like the next part of several more inevitable steps.
Sony isn't the first company to do this. Even the Genesis had 2 or 3 different variants in the US, and then of course there were different versions for Europe and Japan. I predict that in the very near future Sony is going to put all of its efforts towards the PS4 and stop supporting the PS3. It's inevitable, though exactly when it'll happen is hard to say. Sony did support the PS2 for a long time, but once the PS3 was released, PS2 releases slowed down considerably.
It's quite obvious that the black PS3 >>> blue PS3 >>> spiderman design. I'm surprised that you're still here after that drama about the beta games, and using a puppet account to boost your morale, "Greatest TR is a real pro when searching bugs and glitches" I'm only doing that because I hate thread crappers and false people.
I really don't think anyone is going to have trouble figuring out if they have a PSVita, PS3 or PS4 game in their hands.
I can see some parents getting this mixed up but overall I think it will work out alright. I can't see why they would want to redesign their game covers this late in the ps3's life though. Its unlikely to yield anything other than sony consoles being put together in a blue section in stores.
I actually remember back in high school doing a cover design for a project and having a cover that looked practically the same as the first release of PS3 titles. Don't have the file anymore though which is a bummer. It does annoy me though when I'm trying to alphabetically list titles - means I will have to separate them out based on cover type. :-/ I've never been a fan of the whole Platinum/Greatest Hits/Essentials for any PlayStation console - I don't get why it could just be left as normal? It can't be that much cheaper to produce it?? Makes no sense to me. They should just leave titles as they are.
I never understood either... they are priced the same as black label when they hit the shelf anyhow. I like what Nintendo did for a short while over here, they just added a "player's choice" sticker on the top of the case instead of redesigning the whole cover... but it was shortlived.
Ha nice, I know. I think it important for you about these covers. If I correct, You told me that in Brazil, it has low quality printing layout for PS3 covers right? For me I like between from 2006 to 2008 layout game covers. Edit @AleffCorrea oh please.. You just misunderstood whole point
