Kawanishi also suggested that Sony might allow gamers to play PS1 games through emulation on the PC and, in the future, on a cell phone. Could the PSP ever replace your cell phone? "There is a possibility," said Kawanishi. "I won't deny it. Personally, I'm interested in it. Of course, it's not the case that you can connect to wireless LAN everywhere, so you can't call it a permanent connection. But cell phones are permanently connected. Cell phones get more interesting as their data transfer rate increases, and I think it would be extremely interesting to try something like that." http://ps3.ign.com/articles/730/730140p1.html I m getting tired of SONY talking out of her ass all the time about theories and noble ideas. Do they even think before they start talking anymore?:banghead:
I can already play any PSX game on my PC, and without any drm/rootkits sony would likely add. And seriously, who is going to use the psp as a cell phone. The thing is already way to large for that goal, not including any necissary mike/speaker peripherial. Why not focus on making it an outstanding gaming system instead of some jack-of-all trades? If sony just kept their mouth shut, they wouldn't be recieving half the flak they are now from the gaming press, and their fanboys wouldn't get their panties in a not over nothing.
Actualy new reports I saw today was that Warner Bros droped the price of UMD video to around $9 and they are selling like hot cakes. Its not the format that is bad, it's the price that makes it not worth it. --edit-- And the fact some studios keep pushing out crap (Buena Vista actualy did a bang up job putting out great UMDs & picking awsome movies).
I thought the price was only dropped in japan. It's not wether or not it's economically viable, it's sony setting the price at some unreasonable level. Like 20$ UMD's, and possibly a 500$ console.
Actualy according to sony the big problem with the UMD Video format on their side is not having many restrictions at all. So movie studios were free to do as they please and charge what they wanted. Also yes the drop was in japan but it has proven effective. Most PSP Gamers in the states have pretty much felt UMD Movies are just too expensive for just being a DVD with less content. If much cheaper people would be more incline to purchase. I know I would (and I own about 4 umd movies).
Just what I need a giant cell phone the size of a psp. Only reason I don't own one is that it's too damn big.
Just thought about that load of crap. Ridge Racer was released on Mobile phones here 2 or more years ago ! I have quite a few games that look better than PSX stuff on my phone. Maybe he wanted to say PS2? Yakumo
It's not all about looks though. There are some great Playstation games I'd like to be able to play on the move.
And yet you still are limited to the capabilities of a cell phone keypad. Lets face it, I sure as hell dont want some bulky joystick or multibutton contraption just so I can play on a Cell phone. Sony's attidude seems like its been "Bigger = Badder" lately
that was microsoft's approach with the XBOX and especially their Duke controller. Just look how well that did. In contrast, Wii is getting alot of attention, even by its simplistic and small looks
