    Sony PlayStation Vita PDEL-1001 Development Unit (DevKit).
    [YouTuBe Sony PSVita Development Kit PDEL-1001 Mini Video-Review]
    It is through these DevKit's, Dev's write/test/debug PSV games.
    DevKit Differences (From Retail PSV):
    * Design. The console is full black, including "Shift's". Plastic is "Matt";
    * DevKit works only from charger;
    * DevKit have all standart Vita interfaces + MiniUSB, HDMI, and one more "PSP" type charging jack;
    * U can use all your DevKit functions only if U are Sony certified developer and have special key to activate your kit - http://www.scedev.com/psvita/.
    * For the creation of this Photo-Set were used:
    1) Retail Version Of: PSVita 3G/Wi-Fi, PSVita 16GB Memory Card, NFS Most Wanted: A Criterion Game;
    2) Retail Version Of Nokia N-Gage Classic + Ashen Beta.
    Archive with all images from this Photo-Set, you can download >here<.

    Nice item, especially when you know that dev's have to pay 1700€ to this.

    For a cooked vita, they sure overcharge devs for it.

    Worth noting. Dev mem cards won't work on retail units. =)
    (This was prior to the whole memcard/psn account lockdown).

    -edit-
    Also I see your kit expired. You really have one giant paper weight there. Other then Vita over HDMI, not much else you can do (only the studio who owns that kit can generate a new license key).

    HDMI is a big deal though, Id love one for that. Although I imagine updates would be an issue

    The main thing is that the console is in my hands now. That's only a matter of time - when I'll get the key/SDK.:sneakiness:
    In any case, for me it is not very critical, as the unit more comfortable with me as a collector's item than a console for development (At least at the moment.).:friendly_wink:

    Got kit only few days ago, still have no time to check all it's functions.
    Btw, when I insert NFS: MW in it, DK writes that FW version must be 1.80 to run the game.
    Will check some more "early" games like U:GA, R:BS next weekend. :)

    They don't play retail games unless you use retail game patches, kinda like the ps3.
    If the kit isn't activated you can't run fself, which is pretty much the main purpose of owning one of these.

    SDK means jack shit. You need a Key file (not distributed in the SDK) that can only be generated by the studio who owns that kit through the website. There is no other way around it (unless someone finds a way to crack the key system). Even if you do eventually get a key out of them, It's only valid for 90days before it expires and requires an all new one.

    I know because I had to deal with it all the time at my last job.

    You can just pop in a retail card and play as is with out issue but that's about it. =/ (can't get on psn unless firmware is updated and even so it won't pull patches like mentioned).

    Is there a way to remove the "This development kit is expired. See Development Kit Activation Guide" notification? There is a guy selling on craigslist for only $120.

    You can't. Unless someone figure out a way to hack it

    Does the 90 day limit only happens when it's not in use at all or don't matter?

    It doesn't matter, the 90 days is fixed. The only way to get the kit working again is to get a license file again from the person the kit was authorized to. Nobody else can make a key for it.

    Thanks for sharing, glad to see these pics up. It's not easy finding this information.

    I see. Thank you. I was supposed to buy one since its freaking cheap and I need the HDMI out for video recording. I just want to ask: How is the quality of the display when connected to T.V?

    you should still be able to use it to play retail games. just no dev work. The hdmi out isn't all that great last I remember.
