This is getting fucking rediculous now. Sony wants and has won the right to get all information about anyone who: -visited geohot.com -watched a video posted on YouTube or commented on it that showed jackass demoing how the ps3 jailbreak worked. -interacted with him on Twitter. But the real reason to do this apparently is to demonstrate the file was downloaded by specific people in northern California. Usually I never complain about lack of privacy, but this is becoming excessive and Sony needs to cool the fuck down... Thought I would share since maybe this applies to people here.
Don't start... Why would I make this up ffs: Cnet=far more accredited than any ps3 hack site (owned by CBS btw) http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-27080_3-20039536-245.html http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/05/federal-magistrate-allows-sony-to-look-up-visitors-to-geohot-sit/ http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/03/05/geohot_visitors_unmasked/ http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2011/03/geohot-site-unmasking/ http://www.afterdawn.com/news/artic...e_all_ip_addresses_of_visitors_to_geohot_site http://torrentfreak.com/been-to-any-geohots-websites-sony-wants-your-ip-address-110305/ http://www.hardocp.com/news/2011/03...s_revealing_visitors_to_ps3_jailbreaker_site/ Want more? http://news.google.com/news/more?pz=1&cf=all&cf=all&ncl=dKt32nr6c9QiXVMAHnP9GnAnIc6SM
There is no info about it at http://psx-scene.com They have all the court documents, so if it's not there I doubt it's true.
While I agree that it is stupid, I think your the one who is to excessive with this. You make it seem as if they are going to have police come question you at your residence or force you to come to court, its not gunna happen. So they have IP's showing who visited those sites, and probably have IP's showing who chose to download files pertaining to any PS3 exploits, but I really wouldn't worry about it.
Honestly all they are doing this for is to prove how many people could potentially do this exploit. They can't do anything to you if you haven't modded anything or downloaded anything. Though I do agree it is a bit much, I think sony is just trying to make an example of these hackers.
Well to be honest this is going to have little to no impact on the hackers themselves who Sony intend to catch as they will of course be browsing via proxy... leaving no trace for Sony to track. You've got to love how they are pursuing the rights of a console which they do not own all of the rights to distribute. LG patent dispute FTW! So really the only people they will find or affect is the people they have no right or need to, basically everyone except for the people they are looking for... GG Sony. I'd like to see Sony try that shit in Europe or even the UK, they will probably be told to GTFO. BTW The topic title is misleading. Sony are not out to get everyone. They are out to get the alleged 100 hackers but as they would have browsed via proxy so prove futile for them to try and find... but let them try and fail anyway. Also jinn there is no good reason why PSX-SCENE would have been CC'd the court documents. The action for information is in relation to GeoHot but would have been a separate court request altogether so nothing to do with them. Even if they were don't forgt the site needs to be updated manually...
I wouldn't be overly confident with that, if anyone can Sony can, they can only do everything! Money talks, not rights!
Money does not talk in a court room it just buys a better talker. The woman with £3500 in rent arrears who cannot be evicted on human rights grounds would have something to say about that too. I'm sure the ECHR right to privacy or Data Protecton Act 1998 would WTFPWN them so... sucks to be here but sucks more in the USA
What exactly do you mean by "all information"? Can they read your thoughts? Do they know what you ate for breakfast?
I agree!! Graf_Chokolo had his flat raided by the german Police and they stole/took all his information on Hypervisors and Installing OtherOS back on the ps3, but he's still hacking and posting Linux Kernels!! Delving into servers and the like is ganna do fuck all!!
Dude. I feel sorry for you. Do you get your world news from the daily show with John Stewart as well?
Sony is just trying to scare people away. There isn't much they will do with the info other then using it as evidence to show damages. Don't be an ass. He probably just want's more solid news because it's not like half the sites listed above haven't ran with some BS article from some random blog that made it up. Hell Kotaku makes it their job to do it on a weekly basis.
An ass. Wow So apparent some little "hax0r" site is a bigger authority than the register and cnet? Sorry, I live in las Vegas and never have I seen a ces badge for psx-scene. Sometimes you need to broaden horizons regarding what sources you consider. Sorry if I came off as a jerk but I don't randomly create threads to create controversy
If the website covered much of what was going on, they probably would cover this if they found something legit about it. I'm not saying you need to create random threads for controversy but to pick on him and say he must get his news from john stewert because he wants more sources is just being childish. CES badge has no reflection on someone's credentials.
Yes. Or it is a site about ps3 piracy run by people that don't care as much about the case as they've let on. Either way, I will choose to believe it.
