Soul Calibur 2 dreamcast

The one we had here must have been the hi-res version as it looked great to me some odd years ago when it launched. I recall playing it thoroughly and many a hours wasted just to go home and play the DC version as well. Most of my friends aren't really gamers and don't put up much of a challenge so the arcade is where i used to play if I wanted a challenge. Good times fondly recall SC, MVC2, UMK3, KI, and SSF2 being the main attractions till it closed suddenly due to some of our stupid town laws as it was downtown and made "to much of a fuss" for the locals with more money then common sense.

 

AFAIK, there's no "high resolution revision". It's an option in all versions to run the game in 512*480i or 512*240p. To change it, go into the operator's menu and select "Display Test". Press left or right to change the display setting, then hit start to exit that screen, and select the Save & Exit option. MAME doesn't seem to emulate real interlacing, so the 480i option end up as 480p.

 

I'd have loved to have seen Soul Calibur 2 on the Dreamcast and the system could clearly have handled it adequately (wouldn't have looked as good as the XBOX version I guess but would be competitive with the PS2 and GC versions)

The thing that I like to speculate about if there had been a DC version of Soul Calibur 2 is who would have been the "Guest" character? GC got Link, PS2 got Heihachi, XBOX got Spawn........

I suspect the best fit would have been one of:
Tyris Flare/Ax Battler/Gilius Thunderhead
or Joe Musashi

although it might have been interesting to see someone like Chakan in there.

Suspect it might have been Akira though (or maybe Ryo from ShenMue).........or Ulala
