I am central belt Scotland and there wasn't very much snow. Perhaps at most a couple of centimeters, but my daughter's college closed!

When I was a kid I remember struggling through at least 1 foot of snow to get to my Perthshire high school and it wasn't closed. In fact in all the time I went there I think it only closed once. Snow was an accepted and expected part of this strange cold period that happens once every year called 'winter'. Rain mysteriously turns to 'snow' and falls on cold ground and does this remarkable 'mounting up' thing!

Since the 1970s and 80s' our winters have become milder, but our society has become more sophisticated, global and ironically increasingly alarmed when things like this happens!

I was speaking to a friend in London yesterday and I know the weather was the worst they had seen for 18 years, but the whole of the capital simply ground to a halt with no buses and vastly reduced tube service.

Kind of embarrassing that a 'Northern' country, right on the edge of the arctic circle (in fact Edinburgh is on the same latitude as Moscow), and we utterly fail when weather of any kind occurs. :eek:h:

Shows how much you understand ;)

Global warming doesn't mean everywhere turns into tropics.

Global warming has to be the biggest scam i have ever seen, i for one don't believe in it either. Statistics show for years the earth in general has gone through its colder phases, and then warmed back up again, i wouldn't be supprised in the slightest if we now start having a few colder winters, before we know it we'll almost be going into a small ice age again.

Remember that one, end of the 70's early 80's some time around then mini ice age? they were trying to get people to burn more fuel cause it was good for 3rd world countrys and the economy  just goes to show how quickly they change their mind doesn't it?

Better yet only a short ammount of years down the line, oh-no were having global warming, no one burn any fuels. By the end of a couple of cold winters it'll be well guys we did a great job in 06,07,08,09 and now we have completely reveresed the global warming and we are now going into another ice age!! better burn some more fuels!!

Oh a note to keep within this topic, South Yorkshire was and still is quite well snowed up, we basically ground to a halt here by mid afternoon and virtually everyone was sent home from work and school early. It was near impossible to pass most roads and by later afternoon, you would have been really stupid to try..

To top off the snow, the roads ended up with a layer of ice on them under the snow, so grip even in 4WD cars was next to none.

The roads are still terrible here today, gritters have been out and around but most of the roads local to here are still a right mess, i will be giving it a few hours before i go out in the car.

Everyone must be getting snow... some cold front from New England is supposed to sweep by here and dump a bunch of frosty flakes on us. I just hope it isn't like last week. I couldn't get my car out of the parking lot for a few days.

    I didn't realise you were a meteorologist/climate change expert.

My feeling is that we should all shut up about stuff we really don't understand and let the scientists decide what's happening.

There was about an inch of snow yez; I'm in Suffolk. Most of it has melted now. I drove in it twice Sunday evening ¬¬

I didn't realise you were either?

Never said i was by the way. ;-)

My conclusion is presented upon watching many programs related to global warming and spending hours reading up on it, along with some of my own thoughts put into the mix. Its something i was interested in and have been for a good while, because i for one was never sure wether or not to believe it. After research, my own thoughts and all the documentries i have seen on TV from various scientists that have been on, i'm pretty confident its not true.

I think to put it all simple, we have weather patterns that upon years vary, i think we have the 'warmer' periods along with the 'colder' periods, there is history that goes back VERY far to proove this, we have always had these patterns and i see no reason as to why this should have changed much. I don't think anything to do with carbon being released has anything to do with it.

Everyone to their own though eh?

FINALLY it is snowing in my part of the World. We must have been the only part of the UK devoid of anything other than the odd flurry. Now it is crisp, deep and even! Let it snow!
