This may seem ridiculous, but I have a problem. All my music is stored on my PS3, which in turn is hooked up to my AV gear etc. This produces great sound etc, but the problem is that I need to turn the TV on to navigate the menus and see what is being played etc. My wife hates having to turn on the TV on just to listen to music (I quite like it, but whatever).

So I gots to thinking, if I could hook up a small (7 or 8 inch) screen to the PS3, as well as have it connected to the big TV, then I could leave the big TV off, and just use the smaller screen for navigating. Win-win, as they say.

    So a couple of questions:

    (a) is it possible to take the HDMI output from a PS3 and split it between two screens (same picture on each screen)? If it's possible, what kind of quality loss could I expect? If it's not possible with HDMI, what about other output options like component etc?

    (b) What's the smallest HDMI-equipped LCD monitor I can buy? Can I get one around 7 to 8 inches? Smaller? I think it would have to be set to the same resolution as the big TV, which means 1080p (I think I can set my TV to 720p if necessary).

I know it actually would be easier to plug an MP3 player directly into the stereo and just not use the PS3 for music, but I'd be interested to know if a separate screen could work.

    Thanks, Dave.

Yes it's possible to split HDMI, not sure about DRM'd video though. Since it's digital there should be no loss of quality.

You can split component (or any other analog video) by amplifying the video 2x then connect the two outputs in parallel.

Thanks. Since posting this I have found a few HDMI splitters (around the $250 mark) at www.switchbox.com.au.

Now I'd like to know what's the smallest screen / monitor I can buy that takes HDMI? I can also get a HDMI to component converter for another $250 if there's no small screens that take HDMI. I've had a brief search but can't find any screens from the major manufacturers that fit the bill?
