Instead of bumping my old thread with the sort of misleading title, I decided to just make a new thread.

    http://www.spore.com/comm/updates/update051209

Who else here can't wait for Galactic Adventures for Spore? I'm actually pretty pumped for it, and all the news I've been reading on it and the videos I've seen have made me want it more and more.

Before anyone goes on a rant about what happened to Spore, this looks pretty fucking cool. Check out those 3-d panoramas...every single piece of those indoor building parts (check out Parkaboys) was hand-made in an editor, and arranged into a fully functional building in GA with ITS editor. The customization options are already outta sight! And this is just one PART!

I am so beyond hyped up for this, and I know being super hyped for something is generally a bad thing, but this looks like it will actually deliver. Its crazy how much more in depth this will make Space mode, being able to make multi leveled complexes, being able to scale anything up to epic size, making museums and zoos of creatures, being able to make items for your creature to walk around with and interact with...being able to customize what a grenade looks like...its like a third person shooter where every single thing is customizable.

I even think EA is trying to make this for people that don't really play games, and by that I mean is that the editor itself can be tweaked to make super challenging missions for hardcore gamers / creators, and general silly missions and stuff for the casual gamers.

Here's a few videos of some missions made by the folks at Robot chicken:

    Beginning video

Spore Swine Flu (retarded, but in a funny kinda way)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0DGeNk9yXQ

Bad plumbing (takes place in a bathroom with chunks of shit shooting out of the toilets)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE-piWJLcGA

    Unicorns
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTyBqQZCxL0

This mission was also made by them, its their most "serious" one, but its got some cool functions and gameplay.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=os4ITLJl_0w

And an actual Maxis made adventure with an epic battle going on in the background
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fW5NnqHmF4I&feature=related

I can't WAIT for this to come out. Also, the new captain parts look awesome. And they actually make you work for the best parts, rather than foraging through bones to find them all.

Its about 1 month away, but I can't wait much longer.

    My name is MrCasual. :icon_bigg

Spore as of now is kind of an easy "casual" game, but I love the editors a lot.

Its a good idea to get a lot of buddies, that way you can sort of choose what your worlds get populated with. I have a lot of buddies on there with some really cool content.

I'm just gonna go ahead and put this in here as well.

Anyone ever heard of Zprints? Its a program that can take 3-d data and turn them into actual models. EA made a deal with them to make the site "Spore Sculptor", and I ordered one of my own creations just to support cool new technology and for having a real life version of something I made in the game.

    Anyways, here are some pictures.

It looks a little dusty in those pictures, the head suffered the worst, but I think it still looks really good. I was surprised at the attention to little details that was put into what I made. It also looks better from a distance:

Its kinda glossy, but the flash made it really appear more glossy.

It looks sugar coated in my pics almost, but from a distance it kind of looks really good.

Oh, and thanks for the compliments on my stuff, my stuff PALES in comparison to some of the stuff on my other buddy lists though...absolutely pales.

Heh, well you've only had the game for a few days, I had the creator for a while before I made anything good.

I don't see how some of the "high profile" creators can make as many good creations as they do, I think one creator, Aendeavor or whatever, makes cool looking stuff EVERY DAY, and he's not the only one.

Most of my creations are sorta based on other things anyway, so I'm not really original, but thanks for the compliments anyway.

I play Spore occasionally, but was a little pissed off when I tried to register it and found someone already had used a keygen or something and had my serial number already. Took me a good 10 or so emails until I finally got EA to give a process by which they would swallow their pride and allow me, the legitimate owner of the game, to get a new serial number. After which I ironically have not done it yet, but I will eventually (I'd like to be able to take advantage of shared content and all.)

Here is the email under which they explained what I need to do, to get a new serial number:

    Amazing....

Its not just on this forum, Spore is really damn niche. I think part of the reason is that a lot of people felt "betrayed" at how it wasn't the best game ever in terms of gameplay...I think the editors are the best part, and the game editor they made in GA looks really amazing, and I'm sure its gonna add a lot of depth to the actual gameplay.

First thing I'm doing is probably making a "museum" of my creations.

Man, that sucks Hawanja. And Drew, Shame on you for pirating this! I hate how people are like "SecuROM is spyware and it sucks, SO IM GONNA STEAL THE GAME", among other reasons, like the ease of finding torrent sites, or pirating it to use your money on things that "Really matter."

I'm not singling out people that pirated Spore, I just have met a lot of people on the net who half assedly try to come up with reasons on why pirating doesn't hurt the industry, and supporting developers is bad in the long run.

And don't say you pirated it because EA is "big n' evil", stealing candy from Wal-Mart and stealing candy from a baby is still thievery. I saw some people around 2005 or 2006 on the net that wouldn't buy Timesplitters Future Perfect because it was published by EA.

I think cool unique games like this shouldn't be pirated, and Maxis should be supported. Looks like they got supported enough even though tons of people pirated Spore, though, so they went and made this Expansion.

Normally I don't think it does hurt the industry much, except when they choose to not make the game run without the correct serial number, in which case yes it hurts alot.

I really hope more game companies don't choose to go this route. Installing Spore was like installing a new copy of Windows. Took like 2 hours and left me feeling violated inside. If other game companies choose to go the Spore route I think we'll see some sort of backlash.

Buying Spore and getting access to the Sporepedia makes it a million times better, IMO.

I can't imagine what the game would be like if you only played with Maxis content...

Unless I'm mistaken, don't a LOT of PC games use the serial number thing? I was installing Diablo 2 on my Eee PC with an external CD reader, and it and Starcraft, Warcraft, etc all had serial numbers....as did Dawn of War, etc etc.

There was one thing I'm worried about on Spore, that "3 install limit" doesn't mean you can only install it "3" times, but only on 3 different PC's during your time with Spore, which doesn't sound too bad to me, but I heard that changing a part on your PC will make it seem "like a new PC", and changes the install limit. Im kinda wondering if changing my video card affected to install limit thing, I migjt have to go to the official forums and make a thread and get my facts straight on that issue...

Well the deal with Spore is that the serial number is unique to each copy of the game, and if you create an online account with the serial number, then say sell the game and someone else buys the same copy used, then they can't access online content becasue that serial has already been activated. You can only play offline at that point.

What happened to me was that somehow it thinks the serial number that came with my game has already been activated (probably becasue someone used a keygen or something,) and it took me 10 emails of jumping through donkey hoops until they finally broke down and gave me a process by which to get a new one. Mind you their first response to me was essentially "Tough shit, kid." You just gotta keep at them, they'll cave eventually.

And actually yes, if you significantly alter your system setup, like say getting a new video card or hard drive or something, then you may have to reactivate your copy, which if you've gone over the three install thing will involve you emailing EA customer service for a week straight until they finally get tired and tell you how. Personally I think the three install thing is bullshit, but whatever.
