Now this may be hard to believe  a man of my youthful years  I have not yet seen "ANY" of the Star Wars Films  What with my gaming pedigree, my love of gadgets, cartoons, Sci Fi and the like it is hard to beleive but it is honestly true. Now that the 6th installment is due out in the UK shortly I am going to try and make an effort to watch the entire lot. A freind said to me that if he had his brain erased he would love to watch them from the proper 1-6 rather than 4-6 then 1-3 as they were made. As he said he feels it would have him know the characters etc better. Does anyone else agree or disgagree or like me haven`t see them to comment!
You're not missing much. I know I'll get a lot of flak for that, but except for empire, I think it's all bland, and then 1-3 are just CG orgies with little story, as it's set in stone as to what happens. I'd say watch the original first, not the versions where he has greedo fire first, or added in lens flare explosions. then watch the last (first) three, with the first one being painfully crappy, the second a live action video games, and the third with all the odd bits hurridly swept up in the two or so hours. Part 1. Crap. JarJar sucks. Practically kills the movie. Gungan race as a whole must die. Part 2. CG overdose. Let's blow up massive shit. Oh yeah, some story. Part 3. Odd cramming of all missing bits between the new movies and old. By far the most graphic, shows some balls, but as a movie it can't stand on it's own without having watched *five* other movies. Enough said. Part 4. The original, somewhat bland. Cool SFX given the era. Part 5. The best movie, the pinnacle of non cg effects, looks better than any of the CG churned out overkill in 1-3. Part 6. Hokey, ewoks kill the movie, as two foot tall rats cannot beat 6'4" clones with giant walking tanks. Period.
I'm a huge fan of the series, but I'm with Assembler on the valoration of the movies. You shouldn't expect them not to suck. It's just that it's a very fun kind of suck. One is barely watchable; but the lightsaber battle in the end rocked. Two is unbearable, but the very beginning looks like the beginning of a 2D shooter. Three begins like a 3D shooter that I'd LOVE to play and is never going to be made. The dialogue is awful, but it has its moments. Four is somewhat bland for today's standards, yes, but it's also what makes the settings. What's funny about watching Four, Five and Six is that they had to work _around_ what was established there to make the new ones. Five is a masterpiece that is worth watching four and six for it. That's where most of the defining moments of the series take place either way, and where the characters are truly built. Six is an okay ending but cannot stand on its own.
The ewoks make JarJar look like Han Solo, mind you. How a primitive species of furry dwarfs can topple a unit of what's supposed to be elite soldiers is beyond belief. I'm all for guerilla tactics, but please... Also, the "pussyfication" of the characters (most notably Han Solo) with the third movie and the "greedo shot first" edits spoils the third completely. Anyway, if you want to check the movies, check them by order, and if you feel like it, add the animated series of Clone Wars between ep II and III.
You know...I imagine you might be jaded towards the Star Wars movies just from hearing about them so much...so...I tell you this... Don't let the new ones ruin the old ones for you. Just watch the old ones...I wouldn't even bother with the new ones unless you end up liking the old ones a ton. Episode 4 is good, 5 is a bit of a downer...but the best one...6 has a cornball ending...but I guess sums things up. Episode 1 = annoying little kid ruins the whole movie Episode 2 = annoying older kid ruins the whole movie Episode 3 = disgusted with the new ones, I never saw it.
Yes, watch the first two older ones, then the clone wars animated series, then the last part, but feel free to fast foward to the happyfest that is the ewoks "yub yub!!"
Nah guys, I disagree. If you don't know the story then you should watch them in the order they were made, 4, 5, 6, then 1, 2, 3. I only say this becasue there are some suprises and such that are taken for granted in the prequels. Of course chances are you already know all the major plot points, in which case watching them in numerical order is cool for the fact that they seem to get better as they go along (as in 4,5,6 are way better than 1,2,3.) Yeah, don't listen to these guys Alan. Star Wars rocks, no matter how cheesy they are, they are still dripping with cool.
The Battlefront series of Star Wars games are good, too, Alan! Thats kind of rare, but then again, its had more games made for it than all getout. You need an Xbox or a PS2 for the Battlefront series, though. The PS2 versions are jag-tastic, just so you know.
