Yes most people use that patch.

No Yoshi's Island will not work, it doesn't have enough RAM for the Super FX if I recall. Try Stunt Race FX or Doom if you don't care about saving.

    OK thanks!

    Link83-
So would it make any difference to use a cartridge with a Super FX 2 as opposed to the original?

You can use a stunt race fx card. It has a battery and supports saving highscores. It doesn´t matter whether you use a donor cartrdige with an fx1 or 2 because starfox 2 was originaly planned to run on an fx1 where as the fx2 is downward compatible.

Just use the cheapest as you can get. If you don´t care about save support you can also use a pcb without battery.

And yes the patch you are linked to is the latest.

If you need a label for it just send me an pm.

    Regards,
    starwing

With active cooling I wonder how much you can oc the dsp before the game locks.

You'd need to provide extra voltage to the dsp, actively cool it and crank it up, see what you can do!

Does simply overclocking it allow the game to take advantage of the extra CPU time and get a smoother frame rate?

Overclocking the DSP means calculations are done faster, so things that require the DSP chip to process will be returned quicker and overall rendering speeds will improve.

I understand that, but it still depends somewhat on the software as it may not be designed in a way that is compatible with benefits. Star Fox on ZSNES for awhile was running in double speed mode (21mhz) and it caused the game to run WAY too fast. So rather than have a smoother frame rate, the game just ran alot faster.

I got the programmer and the eprom, but now I'm having trouble programming it. I got a willem 5.0C programmer. Yeah, I know Willem programmers are horrible... but they're also cheap :).

    When I try program it I get "Error at 0x000000 chip = 0x00 buffer = 0x03"

I'm pretty sure all the jumpers are set correctly. I'm using usb power. I'll find a power supply later, and see if that does the trick.

    Edit: got it figured out

I got the eprom soldered on, but when I plug it into the system and turn it on, the game doesn't play. The TV screen changes to a lighter black color. It's different than turning on the super nintendo with no cartridge in.

Could my problem be that since I'm testing the game with just the pcb (no case) It's not being grounded by the pin on the case? I've tested all the pins that are side by side on the eprom for shorts with a multimeter, and I didn't find any.

    Suggestions?

edit: *twitch* just realized that I flashed the eprom with a bad version of starfox 2. :(
