I was wondering if anyone could tell me the story of how StarFox 2 went from locked away in the nintendo vault to released on ROM form for everyone to play.
From what i read on a site that specialises on it, it was leaked from agronaut which co developed the game with nintendo like the first game. It was complied from a computer from what i understood reading.
I vaguely remember hearing that it stolen from a trade show (I think in Europe) right before it was canceled and like all betas it's only because of the internet that it is now seeing widespread distribution. Chances are that we'll never know but I seriously doubt that the theft/leak came form Nintendo's side since the are fanatical about security.
No,no,no.Starfox 2 was not stolen from a trade show but someone did attempt to steal it at a trade show. It was leaked by Argonaut according to all the sources which I would believe. They had got final code to go over and iron out all the bugs and one disgruntled employee who was pissed off at it not getting released took it home years later and then leaked it.
I've never heard about this - What happened? Was this for the N64, because i thought that starfox 2 was coming out on the gamecube and being produced by namco
Similarity Many of the new features found in StarFox64 are derived from the unreleased StarFox 2... The idea of Radius Area Bosses and non-starfighter craft are both present in StarFox 2 and I remember reading that Nintendo intended for StarFox 2 to have DeathMatch in a Radius Area like StarFox64 ended up having. Fun game altogether, I remember playing the original StarFox to DEATH on my SNES back in the good 'ol days... when I got a hold of the StarFox 2 Beta I remember all the FAQs said it was generally easier than the original... I don't agree with that, for some reason I find playing StarFox 2 more challenging than the original, maybe I played through the first one so much or maybe I'm just WAY too out of practice. ~Krelian
A "Star Fox 2" beta module was sold on ebay germany mabye a year ago. I sadly missed that auction and it sold for only 50.- Euro. The module should have the SuperFX2 Chip on-board. :smt022
it was probally an home made cartridge.... there are some peeps offering the star fox 2 rom putted on an real cartridge.. although it is still pretty neat
Yeah the only real protoype Starfox 2 carts I have seen were on Snes prototype carts which were bigger than the home released ones(US STYLE) and the jap SFC proto carts which have a very distinctive sticker and different serial. I should also add that all real protypes found to date have been nowhere near as complete as the final code leaked and have gone for small fortunes.
Its not too bad, not a very hard thing to get. Would anyone be interested in purchasing a SF2 on cartridge? I will make you one for a mere $200 donation BTW, AFAIK, it is not SFX2, it is SFX1...
Thats good and bad news for me, I have already made a SFX2 final beta and I thought I fucked up the pinout, i'll either have to replace the ROM or find a SFX2 donor :\
Some of the games (most unreleased) http://www.nintendoland.com/home2.htm?snes/tech.htm They have some of the Super FX 2 games listed at the bottom of the page.
Many of those listed aren't even FX... I believe the only game that truely is GSU-2 (FX2) is Yossy's Island as well. I have a huge list of supposedly all the "special" carts yet the list has proven to be a tad incorrect. I've noticed that Stunt Race FX is really GSU-1, that means that probably Wild Trax or whatever is GSU-2. Not the final version... I thought I should correct an assumption many of you have made reguarding the two leaked starfox 2 beta roms. That is, neather is the final version. Back arround the time Starfox2 was due to be released egm magazine did a complete walkthrough of the final version of the game just before it was officialy cancelled. Neather of the leaked roms are nearly as complete as what was shown in that walkthrough. But then again, perhaps their is a third rom on the net that I don't know about...?
Back in the days when being on the boards and getting ROMs was an elite thing there were many different versions of Star Fox 2 available (If you had the right contacts that is) over a period of 6 months. I had all of them. One was only 8Meg while the others ranged from 12 to 16 meg (SNES Sizes) Back then though there was no way to test them since Wild Cards couldn't play FX chip games and none of the emulators could handle FX chip games until the last two years or so. The only way that we could check if these games were real or not was by looking through the HEX. All versions that we had (4 in total) seemed to be real. Only recently I tried to find these discs for a member of this board. But it seems like with most of my "COOL" stuff, they have grown legs and walked off somewhere while I was in Japan.
