I'm only just like dipped my big toe into the pool of Famicom collecting. but so far $10-50 seems to be the average game price. Games that have expensive North American carts are cheaper on the Famicom.
Same deal over on the Super Famicom, pretty cheap to collect for assuming you aren't trying to get a complete Majouu. (Which is a game I REALLY want)

PS1,PS2 and Original XBOX seem to be somewhat cheap, Gamecube not so much, anything Sega seems to be sky rocketing, I'm in mad rush to breed so I can have a first born to trade for several Saturn games I want.

Portable Systems seem to be the cheapest. Only a handful of Gameboy Games are pricey.

Obviously you can't get rid of last gen games, everything is marked way down (BUY UP NOW)

I can't comment on PC Engine or anything else though. But I'm sure somebody will enlighten me.

This is what I keep asking myself.. you see back in the days when something was released it was in smaller volumes then it seems to be now. So aren't last gen & current gen consoles and most famous games never really going to hit the collectors value due to the just crazy amounts of numbers produced? Or is this just something in my mind?

You're in Brazil though right? So you have that nasty import tax.

Before I decided I was going to pick up the Super Fami I always wanted I checked to see how much Super Mario RPG goes for. It's at worst held it's value. Granted I need some pass through for SNES to SFC but they exist so....time to go nuts.

The Famicom Copies of Kirby and Mario 3 only ran me about $11 each. FC genjin ran me about $35 The rest were Konami Goodies that were between $20-60 not bad considering how nightmarish NES is supposed to be now. I'm going for a Complete Rockman soon too.

I'd have to agree with @Johnny , I think he mentions in general and not counting in the fact of his import taxes. Everyone jumped on the retro gaming bandwagon and everything (everywhere, not only on eBay) has become R4R3 <insert name of cheap game> L@@K !!1!!ELEVEN!

But yes, there are still some things that I'd say rather than cheap, just stayed on their price mark.

Maybe it's just what I'm looking at then. Another it's not that bad example, N64 I think maybe only 7 or 8 games are in the above $80 mark.

    Maybe replace cheap with affordable.

Yeah, i wasn't talking about import taxes. Even then, yes, the retrogaming market in Brazil is ridiculous. I've given up collecting older stuff a long time ago.

I'm sure prices are lower in places like USA and Japan, but like Tchoin mentioned, the number of people collecting are now higher than ever before. As a side effect of this, prices get higher.

    Better explained here:

Shelf collectors definitely aren't helping. Add in all the YouTubers putting up "rare gem" videos on top of that. I've watched games in those videos rise for years and friends of mine buy games they'll never play simply because they were mentioned by Game Sack or Heavy Metal Jesus.

Unfortunately you aren't the only one that noticed this. It actually used to be even cheaper not all that long ago. But the same can be said about pretty much all retro games. It really wasn't all that long ago that they were quite significantly cheaper. The best case would be for some of these people to get bored and get out of it. But even if that doesn't happen the prices will eventually get too high for those not as serious about it. Then maybe people might settle for emulation or flash carts. I mean when it comes to certain games that already is the case.

I do agree that things like popular Youtube channels mentioning certain games sometimes although not always can cause big increases in demand for a title that previously noone cared about.

I can't tolerate sky high prices driven up by YouTubers and people on nostalgia trips. Thus, I avoid them by going more obscure in my interests and searching places they don't.

Search for Apple IIs on Facebook rather than NES on eBay.

Honestly I didn't start noticing prices rise until I started seeing Japanese Saturn games no longer selling for dirt cheap. Snes has gone up a bit but not as outrageous as Nes. One that really suprised me was sega cd, for years you could get most games for next to nothing. More it's covered on YouTube and the more people collect prices go up.

I unsubbed from a ton of you tube channels for that very reason. STFU until I get everything I want. CGR and Game Sack are the worst offenders.

I doubt it but I wonder if Xbox will go up with Xbox One compatibility coming. Most expensive Xbox Games seem to be the Sega stuff. Outrun 2006 is going for $50 loose now.

It's simple. The internet killed retro game collecting. Everyone can look up what people with way too much money are paying for items, then expect that kind of money for them in much poorer condition. It's sad because I've heard/read people tell stories of how they don't want to charge a stupid amount of money for the games they're getting rid of, but they know if they sell them too cheap a reseller will just scoop them up and then sell them for a higher price anyway.I passed up Earthbound for $10 back in the day because I found it a mediocre RPG, and sure as hell will not pay $150 for one with mustard stains on it in 2017.

I've gotten lots of great RPGs for $1 though at the thrift store! Like Disgaea, Disgaea 2, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, and Skyrim. I've gotten some of the Digimon RPGS on PS1 for a dollar also, which command huge price tags online. The games aren't even that great. I've found new copies of PS1 games like Abe's Oddysee for PS1 and that weird Starwars action RPG, $1. Some other great PS1 games I found: Evil Zone, Unholy War, Street Fighter Alpha, X-men vs Street Fighter, X-men Children of the Atom, Ape Escape, basically every Crash Bandicoot game on the system, every Spyro game, and much more. All $1. A set of about 10 NES games, $1 each. I've even gotten some of the Mario games for Wii for $1

I picked up a brand new wii with all the cables, 4 sets of wiimote/nunchuck controllers, a few games, and a wii fit board for $20 at a garage sale. It was barely touched. Not a single speck of dust on the system. Such a great deal, I almost cried penguin tears. I got my fat ps2 at a garage sale for $10. My original xbox, $10. A broken ds lite that also had a pokemon game in the ds cartridge slot as well as the gba cartridge slot, all together: $1, so 33 cents each.

N64 has been pretty "inexpensive" online wise. No one seems to care much about it. Of course there's the few overpriced carts like Harvest Moon, Ogre Battle 64, and Paper Mario. Well, they all are pretty good games, though. I can't think of anything else that people want a lot for, other than that silly Director's Cut rental only version of Clayfighter 64 for hardcore collectors trying to complete the entire catalog, meh, who cares. I paid about $11 for a copy of Mischief Makers, which was totally worth it. One of my top 5 N64 games for sure. Blast Corps, another great game, paid like.. $3. Starwars Podracer? I believe I paid $2 for that INCLUDING shipping. FUN FACT: My cousins had an entire plastic tub filled with DOZENS of BOXED N64 games from when they were kids at their old house that I always had my eye on. When their parents sold the house they DONATED ALL OF THE GAMES TO A LOCAL GAME STORE BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT NO ONE WANTED THEM. I WANTED THEM! GAAAAAAAAH!!!! Fun Fact #2 I threw out all my N64 and PC game boxes as a child to make room for more stuff -tears-

I'm old enough to remember places like Funcoland in the states selling games you'd pay $20 now for as little as 50 cents. I think Duckhunt was like a quarter. I saw a thrift store selling duckhunt for $10 last year and some crap sports game on the N64 for $7 rofl.

I miss Funcoland. I really enjoy grabbing PS1 games and N64 I'm bidding on a Framiester alternative on eBay once I get it I'm buying as much N64 as I can I love that system.

I'm down on Xbox now but the Original Xbox is second only to Dreamcast and Saturn on my favorites list. That's really cheap and I think I have most of the expensive games. I just need Crazy Taxi 3 ,Gunvalkyrie, the Sonic games, Spikeout (foolishly sold it) Outrun 2006 and Toejam and Earl 3, Sega GT and Super Monkey ball to complete my Sega Xbox set.

Don't forget the Japanese N64 games are dirt cheap, and all you have to do to play them as I've read is grind down the little tabs blocking the Japanese N64 carts from being pressed into the slot, replace the back of the N64 cart with the matching region's, or get something like a gameshark to work as an adapter (But I've read horror stories of gamesharks smoking and such on the N64, what the hell seriously?) Or you can just remove the plastic piece completely from the n64 system without damaging anything, I think. I haven't started Japanese cart collecting, and I don't know if the slots for the U.S. N64 are the same for Europe.

First thing I did with my N64 was make it import friendly. I'd love to have it HDMI modded but that's expensive. I have 3 Japanese N64 games Mario Kart 64 and Sin and Punishment.

To play US carts on a SFC I'm getting a Super UFO its a pass through and I can dump ROMs and patch them myself. So cheaper RPGs.

All this hinges on if I can get this scaler or not the Framiester is just too expensive and there are hidden costs like RGB cables and selectors and D terminal to Component. What I'm trying to get does what the Framiester does and even scanlines through VGA.

This is really the only method that should be done. It's so easy to do, and it doesn't damage anything.

It's really easy to cut the tabs on the SNES so you can play SFC games; it's easier than cutting the N64 cart tabs. It's not as visually noticeable either, and it's convenient being able to play SNES or SFC games with no adapter. I've only done this on the SNES 2/Jr.

Well the SNES is ugly that's why I want an SFC.

But before that I need a scaler that won't Bankrupt me and keeps 4:3
I'm losing my mind trying to find such a thing.

The SNES 2/Jr. isn't ugly, though. It has much better RGB output too. Probably more expensive than other options, though. I have an SFC too, but I mostly use the SNES 2 because of its better RGB quality.

Most TVs should have an option to change the aspect ratio.
