It took me a min to figure out that the game theory admiral wasn't actually a GBA... That's pretty damn close, even for a clone.
Well, I was able to get a Game Master, Gamate, Supervision, and Cougar Boy (brazillain Megaduck) all within the space of a year. They all tend to come up on Ebay now and then, the most common being Supervision. The other three I see maybe once every few months. Gamemaster doesn't show up very often, the only guys I see selling it live in northern Europe. The Cougar Boy I actually bought from a member here, although I can't remeber who it was. Somebody in Brazil. Sorry. Gamate is a little more common as it was released in the States. Never ever seen a Game child before though, so I guess that one's super rare. The other clones in the pic (Game Theory Admiral, Pocket Fami, Game king, etc.) can still be found at various websites like Lik sang.
Oh yeah, and the Epoch game pocket computer, that one took me a long ass time to find, and I only have some brick breaker thing and mahjongg, oh well. What about all the TI calculators? I used to be really big into the assembly language community, and we had a good doom port running on a TI-85 back in 1995. They aren't "game consoles", but I can emulate a gameboy on a Ti-92, so they can be a useful game machine.
The Game Child isn't really a programmable system like the rest of these. It's just an LCD system like the ones Tiger sells or the Nintendo Game&Watches. The system makes it seem like you can change the games because what you can actually do is change the screens and since the graphics in LCD games are actually on the screen, it might seem like a whole new game. However, the underlying game is the same in all cases, you just move forward faster and faster dodging the things in front of you and trying to pick up bonus items. One "cartridge" has graphics of a racetrack with F-1 cars, another is something like the Deathstar attack scene from Star Wars and the third is boats in the water. The system looks like an original Gameboy, but with just two buttons to control left and right instead of a full dpad with B and A buttons. Also, there's a newer version of the Game King system that has a color screen now. It's modeled to look like the PSP. One guy I know who has the original B&W system says the games are moderately well written actually. It's a pretty good price any way. ...word is bondage...
Yeah I got a Gameking. The games are very primitive, like 2600 quality. Some of the games are pretty lame, others (like the mario clone or adventure island clone) are decent for the hardware. They are somewhat playable considering though, and interesting in that "clone" way. The color Gameking you're talking about is just the same as the old one but the screen has this colored mountain background on it. Lik Sang had an article on it a while back.
Here is the Gameking 3 http://i38.ac.tpe.yahoo.com/users/2/3/6/6/jhfhwang71126-img600x450-1125165960gameking_01-1.jpg
Heck, if you want to talk about calculators, I had some good games (like Tetris) on my Casio CFX-9850g Now I just have Tetris on my Motorola E378i phone
Wow, had no idea there was a real Color Gamking. I stand corrected. Now the next question is "Where do I get one?"
I think that's the worst screen to system size ratio that I have ever seen. Either the screen is the size of a postage stamp or the system is the size of your standard brick.
Gaahh, GameKing company, please just stop! The GK is just a step above those BlockZone games anyway, even the colour one. I've seen Christmas lights on roofs with higher resolution. Anyway, in all seriousness, I understand that such handhelds have a market in developing countries where the GBA and PSP are unreasonably expensive, but is it really something to get excited about?
Keep in mind, GameKing doesnt wish to spend loads on a lcd...its a product meant to sell for 20-30 dollars....and that price limits the screen size..smaller the screen..cheaper it is Ryan
That's my collection and yes, that's a game plus. The system is really crappy, the games are garbage and the sound is the worst I ever heard. But it If you want some more information, I have a page dedicated to handhelds and here is the section about the Game Master / Game Plus. It's in german, but you can find some pictures of the system and from the inside. Feel free to ask some questions
