a while ago i got a strange MD cart. the cart came with the small japanese box well know from super fanatsy zone for example. all is in black with no label etc. and the game which is on the cart is Wonderboy V - Monsterworld III but fully english texted. anyone knows something about this? thanx for any answers^^ greets tatsujin
It's probably one of the flashed pirated asian carts. I have a cart exactly the same,an official jap md Sega cart but it has the US version of E Swat on it.
piratecart i know well, are always made from cheap plasticparts and are stickered with some wishywashy nonsensestickers. this one looks more like a zeroseries or something ;-)
yes i dit before, it looks like a normal PCB with a Rom on it. just hold on, i will open it again and make a pic later.
oke, i checked it again and it seems to be an original from sega. here the pix: unfortunately i can't open my original copy of wonderboy V without damaging it. so i can't compare the inside.
That is an odd cart if ever there was one. It certainly looks official. The box is a Sunsoft Mega Drive box but the cartridge isn’t. That’s a standard Japanese cartridge. The Sunsoft cart’s had a square side to them. What type of Mega Drive did you try the game in? It may be that the game is an original Japanese version that is bilingual. Many of Sega’s games were like this on the Mega Drive and even Saturn and Dreamcast. If you played the game on a PAL or US system then it could possibly be just a normal Japanese cart without a sticker or box. Or if you tried it on a Japanese machine and it was in English, then it could be a rare prototype of the English language version of the game. Or then again it could just be the English cartridge insides put in to a Japanese cartridge shell to trick people in to thinking that it’s something special. Yakumo
no, i tried it on a japanese MD, i don't have an other, as you know ;-) but i also have the regular WB V - MWIII release, and this is hold in pure japanese text. strange cart, not?^^
Hmm, in that case the game could be a real prototype or an English version put inside a Japanese cartridge case. If it is a prototype then you are a very lucky guy :smt045 Yakumo
This is known as an Asian release. They consist of: -JAP CART. -PAL CART STICKER -ENGLISH TEXT -Mostly a cross between pal/jap boxart. So it's official.
oke thanx, thats for sure now, but what about the the cover the manual the sticker which are missing? and i'm sure there never was a sticker on the cart!
Call this a hunch, but its possible whoever previously owned it lost the insert and possibly ripped the sticker for the card and some how took it clean off. Plus if the insert is missing they can just also use whatever ohter case they want. It's a wild guess but that might be it, or somehow you got a rare not fully manufactured copy.
yes i thought the same about the box etc. but how much i can watch on it, there never was a sticker on it. it's cleanly as it came from the blankingmachine no more than a day ago. no traces of any polisch, cleaning etc.
Because the PAL cart stickers weren't made for JAP format carts they don't fit too great and get loose more quickly..that could be an explanation.
This is not an Asian Mega Drive Cart. Asia Mega Drive carts looked the same shape as PAL and US carts. The Asian carts has a unique Mega Drive logo too which was surrounded in Gold. The games were the English versions like the cart you have but they were never in Japanese style cartridges. Always the western style cartridges. I had a few Asian games that had full English instructions (unlike the PAL or US ones) and boxes complete with the gold looking Mega Drive logo and PAL looking cart. If I remember the games I had on Asian versions were Streets Of Rage 2, Phelios and something else. Yakumo
