Looks like something odd has happened to my PC again. It was fine then all of a sudden my PC tells me that my Windows folder is in the gomi (bin / trash). That's odd I thought so I took a look but the folder is empty. So I tried to delete what wasn't there but the PC wouldn't access the file. So now I'm stuck with a bin that won't empty because of this mystery invisible file that's there. I have to delete everything one by one Any ideas what's going on with it? Here's a few pictures to show you what I mean. This picture shows that the Gomibako (bin) is full yet the folder shows nothing but the option to empty the bin says that the windows folder is in there. This picture shows that the file won't delete. Yakumo
yep but nothing there. I have the same old set of 6 spyware files on my PC that come back every time after they have been removed but I doubt they can cause this strage fault. Yakumo
Had the same problem in windows 98 IIRC, i actually tried to put the windows folder in the recycle bin (which obviously cannot be put in there), rebooted the computer then deleted a dummy file, rebooted and it wasn't there anymore.
While you really need to run spybot, ad-aware and HijackThis to look for the registry entries of that Spyware problem, I think this might help. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm There's, on line number 64, a registry script to repair/restore the Windows Recycle Bin - to the right side. This might help. Not really sure, but it's likely.
....Thats a 'standard' Win registry error that usually cures itself after a reboot or in a few days time!
..or just try the standard way to fix a faulty windows system "format the harddrive and install windows again".. I don't know how many times I've heard that from computer "experts" ;D
Delete a few new files and claer the recycle bin. That is what I did the few times I had this issue. ^_^_^
Spyware is all over the place. Even in programs, during install (radlight video player has them). My suggestion? Spybot + Ad-aware + Hijackthis + a Firewall. Another thing, be careful with e-mails. I got 5 e-mails with phising this weekend (one to confirm a buy at submarino.com.br (which would take me to a porn site) and others were like "Someone just sent you an animated friendship card (which would download a .scr file. I'm getting so defensive with internet, that i don't even use a Mail program anymore. I check all my e-mails through webmail, just to avoid the risk to have bad stuff in my PC.
Did you know AOL instant messenger even includes spam?! I found that out recently. Its the Viewpoint Media Player.
Plus it really fucks up your machine if you let it. The system goes slow, and it's unsafe, and you can't do anything without locking up. And yeah, you can be hacked. For example, my ex's machine actually became some sort of " backup server" for a warez website - had, in a hidden folder, like 30 gigabytes of piracy and russian porn she didn't request... or did she...?
WolverineDK, what's that file that you've posted a link to? It may be best to say what it is otherwise people may be reluctant to download it like me Yakumo
That Viewpoint Media Player was a bitch to get rid of. "Uninstall" my ass. Yet another reason I don't use AIM.
Yakumo: I am a member of many boards and forums (many under this nickname) and that file is a CLEAN AIM installer, without any shitware in it. and i always try to help people
my suggestion........wipe the hdd clean..install linux* and take the windows cd and burn it..... *im touting linux yet i am using xp.....that doesnt make sense
