Looks like a homebrew dumper to me. The method of dumping is pretty simple, I made one with a PIC, serial level converter and an extra cart slot. I'm not sure what the reason for building that is, though - most ROMS are already dumped.
That is the ChameleonUSB with the N64 kit from http://www.vector.co.jp/authors/VA005758/ . Not very cheap but it does work. I've got one with a few of the adapters including the N64 adapter. The software to dump isn't free and Windows only, probably XP only. Here's an English-ish site with its own methods: http://www.teamknox.com/ChameleonNES/ChameleonNES.html
Nice, I think some of the pirate carts would be dumped that way. Because they are some strange bastards those pirate cards every now and then.
Hm. Nifty idea, but how would you fit one of those in both the N64 and DD? Looks like it uses only the cart and no N64 at all.
why would a pass-thru screw stuff up? it has to be invisible and just copy/dump what it lets thru really, components are up to speed for such tasks nowadays no? (waiting for a Calpis reply)
Yeah it's Pasofami (anyone remember the old NES emulator?) with a ChameleonUSB, probably the most popular system in Japan since it's Japanese. It can't dump any better than any other unit, but possibly worse like Z64 on prototype stuff since it doesn't adhere to bus timing (not that it needs to generally). You could theoretically put a N64 bottom connector on it and rewrite the software to dump 64DD, but at that point you're already doing it all yourself so may as well roll your own PC interface. PS: I think a Gameshark is a much stranger way to dump N64 ROMs
You can use a Gameshark to dump N64 roms???? not that i have anything i want to dump, but i had a N64 gameshark for a while and i never knew that. kinda interesting.
