In another one of my boring threads, I am asking everone's opinion on which is their favourite Street Fighter 2 game and their Fave Street Fighter 3 game and for which system. All this stuff is being recorded in an article I am doing, in case you guys think I am just doing these threads for the hell of it.

My fave SF2 game has to be Super Street Fighter 2 X on the Matsushita 3DO, I just find it so superior to both the Dreamcast and arcade versions with it's amazing remixed music and beautiful graphics. The hi res of the dc version puts me off, don't ask me why it's just personal preference.IMO everyone has to play the 3do version, it really is superb.I loved the special championship edition on the megadrive too and this comes a very close second for me.SSf2 for matching service on the DC was great but the Dodo version is the one for me.

My fave SF3 game has to be Double Impact on the Dreamcast, superior to the Ps2 version by a long way imo, and also superior to the DC sequel that is 3rd strike.£rd strike's graphics despite coming after are much worse, slightly pixelated and the colours appear to be washed out.Everyone has to play this game and buy a Ntsc dc for it, it's the pinnacle of 2d graphics, utterly a joy to watch and the most competitive 2 player fighter you will ever play. The ps2 version seems to be very tempremental. It sometimes goes all pixelated on the title screen and after a fight, very occasionally this happens but I've spoken to five other people who have go this too, same with MvsC2 on the ps2 as well.Italso doesn't seem to be as close to the arcade as the Dc version. Can't quite put my finger on it...ach what the hell, it's shite compared to the DC two imo.Don't start jumping down my throat cause I said that, it's my personal opinion. The ps2 does struggle with this kind of intensive 2d wheras the Dreamcast was just beautiful at it, but then again the Saturn with the 4mb pack does it better than the DC imo.

What do you guys think???Post your opinions and let's go down Street Fighter 2 memory lane.Round One.......FIGHT!!!! :smt1069

Street fighter 2 SCE on the megadrive, just the best 16-bit streetfighter imho, great characters great controls (if you are using the 6 button pad)

And of course the best streetfighter game ever streetfighter 3 third strike on the dreamcast the best 2d beat em up by far.
Great characters in lots of diversity, kick ass soundtrack superb controls backgrounds etc.
    Just the best :smt023

Funny that you mention the 3DO game Nintymad, got that one in today and played a few rounds :smt043

My favourite SF game is Street Fighter Zero 2 for Saturn, it has some cool characters thrown in, great music & gfx and a nice combo system. I didnt get much into SFZ3 (though the Saturn version is very impressive), I think it's a bit too much with the 3 powerup modes and heaps of characters and whatnot... I prefer SFZ2's simplicity (but not that much that I would stick to SFZ which doesnt look as good as SFZ2).
If you also count the VS games it's a close tie between SFZ2 and MSH vs SF. The latter has just that tiny bit that's missing in Xmen vs SF, can't really put it.
I havent played too much of the 16-bit SF games so I cant comment on which one being the best, same for the SF3 games, only played SF3:TS on DC but the pad put me off :-(

I love the SFII series, but that game draggon-punchs it's arse...

  6. I'm not too much of a SF (or any 2Dfighter) man, although SF2 Dash on PCE kicks ass.

The original on Super Famicom holds good memories though; 10 of us in a tiny room playing SF2 through an adaptor on a PAL SNES on a 14inch telly. And the game cost £120!! (about a week after japanese release).

Our local dodgy little arcade had a couple of SF2 'Black Belt Edition' cabs. Never seen so many pixel glitches on screen at once in my life!! Was there only one hacked version of SF2, the BB edition, or were there others?

The Sfzero games are insane!!Pure class for insane combo's, you really have to know what you are doing to get into them so you must be a bit of an SF master like myself. What are you thinking of the Dodo version at the moment??Oh and for the Dc you just have to get the fighting pad which is nearly identical to the saturn pad mate, it kicks arse and you can have pure Sf madness on the DC.

    End quote.

There are literally hundreds of arcade hacks, some great, some pure shite. It was off these cabs that the idea came to capcom for doing the fireballs in the air and the rest off the special moves wherever you wanted. This created the combo system too, as these cabs became massively popular because of the ability to do all these crazy things, so capcom naturally wanted a slice of the action themselves, so done SF2 turbo SSf2x, etc... The hacked cabs were the first ones to run slower, combo's,aerial special moves etcc.

Isn't it funny how these hackers would inevitably make capcom billions of dollars and make the franchise stay around that little bit longer.

My favorite SFII is also SFIIX, I prefer the CPS2 version :D I'm not a big fan of SFIII though... and if SFZ counts, I also like SFZII also the best!

Judging from the few Street Fighter games I've played (I don't have quite the buffet of systems you guys have to choose from :smt009 ), I'd have to say the PC (no, it's not a typo) version of Super Street Fighter II Turbo. The music is beautiful, the animation and sound are excellent, and the game isn't (terribly) buggy. It's basically an arcade port, however, so I suppose I could just say the arcade version's my favorite :prayer: .

I love the series, and as of right now I'm trying to find them for Saturn. I've only found Street Fighter Alpha for $10 at a flea market in Raliegh so far. Does anyone know of a good compilation for either the Saturn or PSX which has SSF2T?

my favorite versions must be sf2 plus sf2 turbo hyper fighting on the snes and when i played ssf2 on snes i was horrified because they had ruined the cool and awesome melodies from the two earlier games

Taemos if i remember right there was a collection of sf2(with all of the original sf2 games) to psx

called streetfighter collection 1 and 2 where number 2 had streetfighter alpha 2 gold on collection 2

but yes there are a collection of them on psx but i am not sure if the name i call them are correct

on arcade it is sf2 turbo (i never had a chance to play sf2 on arcade ) and super sf2 and turbo

but th SF alpha versions is not my cup of tea

The 3DO version has been outdone by the PS2 version that has the wonderful soundtrack also. I dunno about anywhere else, but the pal 3DO version runs in a box, a really small one :angry

My fave is SF Alpha/Zero on Saturn.

    Re: re

Street Fighter collection on the saturn has the games you are after, the SSf2 games.I am sure it is an NTSC J only release.Smart black box with Ryu on the front.

This is also available on the PSX but the saturn version is superior.

Has anyone played the anniversary collection on xbox online?I must say this is really tempting me, the online sf2 fighting sounds amazing as long as there is no lag. That destroyed the online play of Cvs 2.

Now if I had an Action Replay/Gameshark and lived in the UK I'd be in business :smt009 .

I appreciate the effort, though. Anyone have a spare import device for American Saturns that they'd be willing to sell?

It is available on the US psx, otherwise you could use the swap trick to play it on the saturn. The swap trick works for 90% of import titles and all backups of originals when patched.Really you could do with a jap Saturn though, they are dirt cheap loose.Yakumo can get them for ridiculously low prices.Everyone needs a jap Saturn to play all those jap classics.otherwise you can get an import device but that would probably cost you mor than the jap saturn.

Also the ps2 version of the game is neither Sf2 or any of it's four upgrades, it doesn't know what it is.It is a completely original addition by letting you mix the fighting styles. It doesn't hold a candle to SSf2x imo.It also doesn't contain the games in their original form and for a dvd title that is a disgrace. It only lets you mix the various games.I prefer my dc and ssf2x for ms or dod ssf2x, or a bit of champion edition on the md or pce.
Also the ai in the game is just plain ridiculous. It cheats, it does moves to a timing that us mortals are incapable of, the gamespot review has it spot on, it is like they read my thoughts to an extent. You can't do any of the glitch moves which made it Sf2, the arcade had these glitches and they required skill to pull off so why remove them from an arcade translation???

Pure pish imo but I will give the xbox online fighting a go, how can anyone be satisfied with the ps2 port when it misses this crucial addition.Capcom really pissed off alot of fans with this.

Edit: I never realised the xbox version is yet to be released.

I might have to think about that Japanese Saturn idea. I don't pirate games, and homebrew doesn't really interest me...

I just don't want to screw up the drive on my Saturn by using the swap trick. Too much hassle anyway...

  17. I think this far my favorite Street Fighter 2 game has to be Super Street Fighter II on the Genesis. I know there's less color and the sound is awful compared to the SNES version, but there is a smoothness to the game that the SNES can't match. I've also played a *cough* shareware version of the PC Engine Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition (to see if it was worth buying), which I thought seemed nicely done as well, but I'll get my hands on a real copy and an Avenue Pad before making that judgement.

I've not yet had the occasion to play any of the Street Fighter 3 series yet, but I'll go on record as saying that I think my favorite Street Fighter game hands down is Street Fighter Zero/Alpha 3.

3rd Strike on DC suffered from a really shitty port, Capcom disabled support for C and Z so if you´re playing with a Saturn pad you cant use them you have to use L and R, what da fuck :smt096 Then you had to press some button configuration at boot to De-Interlace, Double Impact on the other hand was just perfect, great port and it came earlier, its a shame most people don´t talk about the real deal. I also think that SFIII characters didn´t have the same carisma of the ones in SFII so I have to go with SFII SNES or CPS2. SFZ3 on Saturn and PSX are fantastic too!

    CRAPCOM is the best!

Nintymad: what do you mean by "Dodo edition"?
Oh and by the way, Street Fighter Collection on Saturn was released in all 3 territories but it's maddeningly hard to find as it was released in 1998... you can get the Brazil version (which might run on a US machine) here: http://tectoy-forever.cjb.net/

And yes the PS2 version is pretty damn hard... but I'll keep at it :)
