I can feel you on all stars, which makes me thankful for the whole WAD thing going on on the Wii scene lately.

When I bought my SNES, it came with Super Mario World and Super Mario Kart. Plus it had a coupon for a free Super Mario All-Stars. So I got 3 great Mario games when I bought my SNES. ;) I don't think All-Stars is rare at all. It's just very popular/good amount of demand for it.

I never owned it as I owned both games individually, but Future Zone, which became GAME then EB GAME sold it for a time close to the end of the SNES shelf life.

I love Allstars purely due to the fact it has the real SMB2 on it, and it's done up and looks prettier. :110:

On a related matter, which do you prefer; Allstars, or the original NES games?

I know this might sound odd, but when it comes to a "quicky" I think nothing beats the original S.M.Bros (and hence its Japanese sequel) in simplicity.

All stars made those two games feel more epic thanks to better graphics.

Regarding Super Mario Bros 3, the All Stars version is preferred by me.

SMBros:USA, couldnt care less, probably the GBA version over the others :p

I think I always prefered the All Stars versions, because of being able to save the game. I also liked the better graphics and sound.
And I just won't pay 2000 Wii Points (=20~30€) for the four NES games. :110:

Apparently the SMW +Allstars SMW lacked some parallax stuff in order to preserve memoire, making the stand alone SMW the better of the two.

I need to change the battery in my PAL Allstars. It keeps save files for about a week then they disappear. :(

In some respects this is true. Luigi is different also, but that is better IMO.

As far as I know, the only difference between stand alone World and All-Stars+World World is the changed Luigi sprite.
(And well, the rom size is also expanded from 16mbits with 8mbits extra, giving a 24mbits total, even though adding only 4mbits extra would've been enough to fit in Super Mario World)

A quick google for what you mention about "missing" parallax stuff only seems to come up with the usual wikipedia article on it, which refers to the fact that Super Mario World is visually outdated when compared to the rest of the games in All-Stars.
