That's the backup battery - the SRAM should be in the 28 pin socket just above the DIP switch. Because it's a Nintendo title, and prototypes from Nintendo stuff basically don't ever leak. Which is another part of the reason I think this thing is as fake as a $9 bill.
Is there a reason he hasn't bothered playing them and sharing what's different? If I was going to bother even saying I own something I'd at least do that.
A 3 dollar bill was actually a thing for the record. A very long time ago mind you but it was in fact a thing. They're quite sought after now as collectors items.
If there is a real 3 dollar bill I can't find a pic of it. Google image searching it shows a bunch of fakes ones. Even if you include Real in the search.
It's clearly fake. It has sticky tape holding on the (very fresh looking) labels. Also, what dev would go to the trouble of printing out labels on A4 paper, rather than just handwriting them on sticky ROM labels. Also, why would a dev cart have 'for demonstration' written on it? EDIT: And also he's just stuffed some Rendering Ranger ROMs in the same board And the same with Rockman 7, Pocky and Rocky 2. https://www.instagram.com/p/BHsMph2Bjm_/?taken-by=fabio_retro Same dip switch settings even though it's a different number of ROMs. Same date code on the battery even though RR was developed at a completely different time. I wouldn't be surprised if you zoomed in on the date codes of the various ICs and found them all to be exactly the same.
This looks like one of those fake prototypes that was on sale on Yafuoku about two years ago. I highly doubt it is legitimate.
Yeah as I said, it's much more likely he got his hands on an empty SNES dev long board and just started stuffing in random EPROMs and pretending he has RR, Rockman 7, Super Metroid and Pocky and Rocky protos. Note there isn't a picture of all of them side by side.
I'm imagining two scenarios. He either bought these from somewhere and was duped, or he himself bought a bunch of long boards and faked having all of this stuff just to get attention from other people that might see him as a high roller and offer him more rare things. Considering he posted some of these months ago and never publicized it on any forum, I'm going to just assume he was duped.
I love obsolete and obscure currency. American half cents were also a thing at one point. I was a collector years back, but not so much now. I just have my old currency collection stashed away these days.
Only thing I heard that was a bit different in early version of super metroid by dev was Samus death scream sounded more like an orgasim that's it. I doubt will ever get an early version like Fusion where it's an outline of the map with details waiting to be filled in.
I'm thinking that it's more likely he only has one long board and he's pulling a fast one, all his SNES long boards look to be identical and you don't ever see more than one in a picture at a time.
If you go back a bit further in his IG photo stream, there's one shot with 3 long boards in it. However, I'm not saying that takes away any suspicion or makes this any more credible. Could mean he has at least 3 of them. I've seen too many long board fakes recently and this guy's aren't looking any better IMO. All the characteristics of these are suspect and/or remind me of nj's.
I can't find anything between all pics that would imply he's reusing the same board over and over. Does anyone know him and has contacted him? Edit: I don't think he's reusing boards. Either he got a legit score from someone or someone duped him. Sure would be nice to have more info... He also has a Mario Kart proto apparently.
I have the debug prototype if your interested! As mentioned previously there has been alot of blank proto pcbs sold on ebay recently, old stock from culture brain. The sticky tape does look way too fresh. Id definitely be sus on this.
Good point. The battery is dated March 1994, which is a production date, so it has been put on that board no earlier than March/April, but most likely a couple of weeks or months after, maybe even later. It could have been replaced, but we know they are usually not faulty and can be used for 10+ years no problem. The game was released in Japan on March 19, 1994. I would expect a proto board to be at least a couple of months before this date, and to come with a battery at least as old. Not trying to prove or disprove anything, but it adds to the feeling there is something wrong.
