Superman for PlayStation (2000 - Titus Software) data dump

Could we start banning people who drive off sources of information just because they only offer information and not free shit? Not the first time it's happened, could only hope it's the last.

 

While it wouldn't be the most interesting PSX Beta to get information from, it's a shame nontheless that no more information is going to be shared about it. I would have liked to have seen video showing any placeholder or debug stuff, for sure. I wonder what he wanted to trade it for? I can't imagine what would get traded for it?

It does annoy me when a game I'd like to play isn't made available, but to be fair, I (or any of us) don't have the automatic right to receive and play a game that someone else has, so if they refuse to make it freely available then we have to accept that. And whatever RMandel's motives in starting this thread, he at least gave us some information about the game, which is more than we'd have had had he not posted at all. So I have to side with Borman here, RMandel has done nothing wrong (well, you could say he's being ungenerous by not releasing the game, but he's not morally or legally obliged to) and doesn't deserve to be criticised for his actions in this thread (aside from 'freetards' comment, which wasn't fair).

My own thoughts are that if Superman for the Playstation is anything like the N64 game (I've not watched the video) then I wouldn't be interested anyway, but I'm not a collector, just a gamer, so a game's rarity doesn't interest me, just the game itself. But some people do like collecting rare games, and if they aquire unique/almost unique betas/prototypes/full releases/etc then they are free to keep the game to themselves, and we have to respect that. We don't have to like it, but we should respect it.

Off topic, but it so often seems that Batman gets really good games (from three very good Batman games on the ZX Spectrum to Batman: Arkham City, which is my favourite game from the XBox 360/PS3 generation), whereas Superman's games are awful. Of course, Batman has bad games too, but I can't think of any Superman game that is better than below average - are there any?

 

Only if we ban the people who suck up thinking that by boosting the guys ego then maybe they'd get the game.

I don't care if the game is released or not, most cancelled games were cancelled for a reason and if they are also unfinished then it's not like playing it will be any fun. But posting stuff like this is flame bait, it's human nature to want something that you've been told you can't have.

I find the suck ups to be way more annoying than the people who get upset.

Seriously, nobody in this thread has called him out for NOT sharing it - it's his, he can do what he wants with it, we all know this.

What irked me (a bit) was the tone of his first post:

"Oh, and before you ask, I have NO INTENTION of releasing this, nor will you find it posted anywhere on the Internet - at least not by me."

It's the use of caps here to really drive the point home...

and then, just in case you missed it, he does the same thing near the end of his post:

"As I said earlier, I have NO INTENTION of releasing this. EVER."

If that isn't bragging, god knows what is.

Like I said, there's a way to approach a forum with a proto or beta - be nice, come here because you want to share information. Honestly, most times I'm just happy to read about an unreleased game rather than actually play it. This is why Borman seems to have hit the nail on the head with his proto posts; they're informative, usually have videos of the game up and running - and people politely discuss it.

In contrast this guy practically shouts at us that he's NEVER GOING TO RELEASE IT (EVER) and squashed in the post there are comments like:

"I might even try to play the thing for you in another video, if you insist - but it's not my kind of game and I'm not very good at it."

"I am not familiar enough with either the game or its history to know whether or not this is true, nor have I played it all the way through to see (it's not my kind of game)."

So, you don't even like the game... great!

Nobody called him out for not sharing it - you guys take a mild comment and suddenly we're all 'freetards' and god knows what else... just because the guy's post seems like more of a boast than the genuine sharing of information of an unreleased game. My honest opinion, I think his post is actually a bit of both - but it would have been better if he'd just reviewed what he had, and served up this data dump. Nobody would have said anything...

I'm tired of people making simple comments and suddenly we're all damned freeloaders... sure, there are some idiots who behave like that, but let's be honest, they're rare - and usually don't last long around here.

 

yeah the way he's gone about it made him come across as a bit of an ass. a part of me would like to see someone with another copy of this game rip it and release the iso just so this guys copy would be pretty much worthless. or maybe thats going a bit far lol. i respect his decision to not release a rip of this game but the post sucked.

You can say that he is bragging all you like, but until your inbox gets spammed up with "When are you releasing that" or "Just send me the files, man," it is hard to relate to his frustration. You would think that people would see a normal statement like "Unfortunately I cannot release it online right now," but they dont. Even with the best intentions, to me I can tell RMandel is obviously frustrated by other things that go on, and he posted when he was frustrated. Don't blame him, seriously, I do it sometimes to. At some point, all the nagging, all the complaining, get to you.

For every post that you guys see on the forums, I guarantee he is receiving PMs, messages on Youtube, whatever. Even through experience Ive tried to learn to ignore those people, but at some point we all break and just want to scream at people. Collecting prototypes and writing about them is a very, very thankless job right now, and there are plenty of reasons that many of the collectors, most of whom with far more access to titles than myself, have all but disappeared. I still consider myself small game, knowledgable as I may be at times, and now that I finally feel like I could learn a lot from those with a ton of titles, they are no where to be found. I miss my long conversations with BuyAtari, DreamTR, all of those people. They use to share a lot of information, and now Im surprised that BA has shown up here hah (Do send me a PM or email sometime ;P)

 

So he only has a copy of the beta right. WHICH HE HAS SAID HE HAS MADE A COPY OF RIGHT? SO WHEN IT DOES GET TRADED WHAT IS STOPPING HIM FROM THEN RELEASING IT AND DESTROYING THE VALUE OF THE ITEM HE JUST SOLD/TRADED?? This all seems fishy too me.

BTW if you just wanted to give some info on the game then just write a blog about it, this site has the feature and it sounds a lot less skeptical than creating a tread and basically starting shit with people.

 

Well, I'm sorry if I came across as "something of an ass." I never meant to do that. I'm also sorry I even brought up the subject in the first place. So, I'll go away not bother anyone else about this anymore. And since most of you seemed to thing the game was worthless, I broke the disc in two today and and threw it away, then erased the backup ISO file I had - and did that with all that other stuff. Now none of us have to worry about any of that anymore. I'm off to do better things with my time. I apologize for any consternation I've caused, I apologize to anyone whose sensibilities I may have offended, and I'm sorry to have wasted everyone's time.

 

i'm just going to go a head and lock this thread. Nothing good will come of it further.
