Got this from another site: To me, this looks like freaking ANCIENT FF9 concept art, too. Can someone translate this article? I like the concept of class restrictive summons for some reason.
I remember seeing a FFIX FFX and FFXI (maybe 8 9 and 10) article, all announced at the same time, so I wouldnt doubt that it was in production then.
You speak portugese, paulo? If anyone has any high-res scans of the old concept art, let me know, I would like to have a copy, since I'm a fan of FF9.
Hey, I remember that art of the dragoons in the top right corner! I saw it way back in the middle of high school and was told it was from a cancelled FF game. Supposedly the two characters were actualy not humans but were dragon that could turn into them. I figured it was just some fan art that had some rumors surrounding it, but maybe not...
I've been looking into it more and those Dragons are concept art for Burmecians. Strange they went from Dragon to Rat. I guess Dragon slaying Rats is inspiring or something.
Yeah, I remember seeing those in a few mags, if I can find some Ill scan it in hi res, but they are definitley real. Agreed about the Burmecians though, hehe from dragon to rat, a little odd.
It's artwork by "Toshiyuki Itahana" Not exactly sure what the background story of his work on FFIX was, but you can find more/good pictures for FFIX done by him HERE and you can find some of his FF:Crystal Chronicles art HERE
Here we go: Quick news True rumors For quite some time some drawings and projects about a game have been on media without any announcement from the producer. It wouldn't be something exceptional unless such producer weren't Square. Of course this could be a project for a new medieval fantasy title involving dragons and warriors, maybe a new Saga Frontier. However, those drawings had an unimaginable title: Final Fantasy XI. It was a big surprise, once the illustrations were not by Yoshitaka Amano's or Tetsuya Nomura's, the official illustrators of the series. With lines that are similar to Pop'n Music, by Konami, none of the realistic lines from Final Fantasy VIII were there, but there were characters that are particular from the series, such as Bahamut, Leviathan, Tital, Tomberi, Jobs (including old and new Jobs, such as Dark Knight and Double Magic User) and even chocobos (this time carrying swords on its back)! And, accompanying the project, a wonderful CG movie showing a true Flying Caravell and not Spaceships, Airships or other bullshits. Would the nineth episode be the one that could mark the return of the medieval era? With all these information spread around the media, Square had to say something, piecing together this puzzle. As informed in edition #40, strong rumors said that for quite some time Square has been planning a Final Fantasy title ressurrecting old elements present in FFI-FFIV, but as a side story. So, a project for a Final Fantasy game began. However, the softhouse still doesn't know if the game would be called "the new Final Fantasy" or "the third side-story about Final Fantasy" (and not the second as we said in the last edition, being the first FF Mystic Quest and the secons Final Fantasy Tactics, PS). Anyway, a new version of FF is always welcome. This time you will be a young knight and his female friend who has long dark hair; they go out around the world looking for adventures. You will be able to choose between several jobs (Dragoneers, Archers, Scholars, Black Mages, With Mages, among others). The Mystic creatures and summons, like Shiva, Odin, Titan, Bahamut and Leviathan will also play an important role in the game. Like before, they will concede powers to the characters, but in a completely new manner: merging with the characters' bodies. This way the characters will be able to wear powerful biological armors when uniting with Bahamut or Leviathan, among other effects. There are also some cogitations about the presence of the Faerie People, the race of one of the three characters from Seiken Densetsu 2 / Secret of Mana; a plot involving 12 wise men; and a completely new battle system, 100% interactive, maybe based on Ehrgeiz or Soul Calibur.
