Quite possibly dodgy hardware somewhere along the line. I'd imagine possibly buggered RAM - is it all the same rating (i.e. PC 2700) or preferably same manufacturer. Try running memtest86, its a bootable image, so it doesn't matter that you can't get the OS installed
could it be because of a buggered HDD? i got it from someone else, and i doubt he was the type to protect himself from any kind of virus. I heard some virus could survive to formats. I doubt ram is of the same speed too. i'll need to check that. But i had different kind of ram on my older pc too, and i had no problem at all. At last, what about Virus that install themselves in the cache of the CPU? mine isn't new either. Damn, hope it's not something i won't be able to repair. I don't want to spend another 200-300 dollards either. EDIT: oops, you posted while i was making this reply, Yeah, i clocked it at it's original speed now, i suspected this was the problem too.
I doubt it, but running a fdisk on it wouldn't hurt Impossible. Or if it was, it would disappear when the computer is turned on. CPU cache is volatile
Cahaz, if you want I can send you SUSE 9.3 DVD in the mail because its what I am currently using. Unfortunatly for legal reasons you will have to install codecs youself
that would be really sweet. i'll PM you later. Still, i wonder why every linux distro i (try to (sometimes)) install is crashing like that and... ( ) ..now that i remember, i first installed Suse when i had only one 512 MB card in my machine. The other 2 256MBs came in later. I had the same problem. EDIT: i may have found the problem. I'm on Suse right now, and i have no problem so far. My bios was set at "Non-Os2", wich is for low memory computers (64 mb or less), if i remember right. I just switched to "Os2" right now. I really hope it's that stupid.
Doesn't work. Again. I tried the MemTest that was on My Suse CD. Everything is Ok. My 512 MB card is from Samsung and is clocked at 2100. The two others are (if i remember right) from kingston, and are clocked at 2700. Still, no problem at all on windows. Everything was Ok in the test, i had two different speed on two different card on my old PC too, and i had the same problem when i only had my 512MB card. So, i think we can say it's not because of the RAM. First time i use an AMD for linux though, and they say my Proccesor is a 386, wich sounds weird to me (like i said, never used AMD, so maybe it isn't) I'll try to post on other forums, linux oriented forums. Still, if someone find something or want me to try something else, i'm open to every suggestions. Thanks again.
