Taobao seller has adapter for better screen GBA to original GBA

Fantastic mod. If I had an original GBA I'd be sure to do this mod.

 

What are the benefits to this over just using a full backwards compatible gba sp.

 

I've seen this mod elsewhere with a self-made adapter. If you happen to have a broken GBA and a broken/scratched AGS-101 then it's definitely worth doing it otherwise it's a waste of resources. I do prefer the form factor of the original GBA though. There's also a spicy orange original GBA replacement case that would go well with the mod.

 

The form factor. gba sp is small enough to be awkward. worst of all its cart location, stuff like ereader becomes even more frustrating.

 

i was planning to buy this pre-made. but i am pretty sure i will scratch the original gba's screen easily. my hands are not so big so i don't feel cramped when i use gba sp ags-101. so i gave it up.

though it is really great for those who wish the original's form factor and backlit together.

 

Would this work with the original LCD display from older SP? Or only the "newer and brighter" model? The original model were front lighted and the light could be turned off in daylight to save battery while the newer one were back lit and couldn't be turned off at all.

 

I've seen this as well but never thought it was worth it.

I do have a ags-101 and its the best version out there.

 

Great mod. I have an AGS-101 SP as well, but I still like the form factor of the original GBA more...I don't know, I just don't like like the folding handhelds, so I usually use my GB-micro when playing GBA games and my 101 SP for old GB/GBC games.

 

Good mod for people like myself who much prefer the original GBA to the SP (although the Micro's pretty decent) and definitely an improvement on Afterburner frontlit mods. Zerey's stuff is way overpriced compared to some other Chinese sellers, but he gets more exposure because he speaks some English and is willing to take Paypal payments and deal directly with foreigners.

 

Assembler, could you please tell us if this mod drains gba's battery a lot faster? If not, this should be a winwin solution.

 

The last image on the OP states that he gets better battery life with the modded GBA than he did with the GBA-SP.

I highly prefer the feel of the original GBA to the SP and may consider doing this mod myself. Thanks for the guide, Assembler!

it is backlit, afterburner is front-lit. if you have seen both gba sp ags-001 and gba sp ags-101, you know the difference.

 

That is impressive. If I ever come across a broken AGS-101 I might consider doing this. Very nice detailed guide.

 

wouldn't it be simpler to get Composite from the GBA video chip? or make a Composite circuit and use an off the shelf
dealextrame LCD and do the mod that way?
