This is a nice mod. I to prefer the original GBA model. Sometimes I play on GBA, but mostly I play GBA games on backlit DS(the original batch, a single dead pixel on the top screen).

    LOL! No, definitely not.

Side note, I do have a digital instruction manual on my site, in case you want to take a look at it even further.

I can also answer any questions you might have about the mod. I've only built about 50 of these at this point :p

There you go. You can get them for less on Taobao, but after postage and agent fees, there's not much difference. Plus you can pay by Paypal and wouldn't have to deal with Taobao sellers being out of stock.

looks better than the afterburner kits of yore. Now all you need is a snazzy case and a flash cart with some rechargeable batts then you have an awesome portable

Interesting. Now I'd just need a decent mod to put a rechargeable battery in my old GBA and I'd be ready to go.

It would literally be the perfect mod...if only it had the response time of the front-lit SP screen or even the original GBA Screen. As much as I love the GBA at this point I think I may be better off just sticking to my DSPhat (Which has a good balance of response time and over IQ. Despite somewhat poor screen uniformity and bad viewing angles;which I've never minded with the phat;)and GBPlayer for GBA games. Maybe get a Micro too.

Since Wiggy makes Frontlit GBC's and backlit GBPockets now. Getting one of those certainly seems the better alternative for someone like me who is very sensitive to ghosting/response time blur...or rather as someone who considers it as important as any other factor for Image quality :( (Still at least the ghosting/blur is not as bad as say the PSP-1000. Which was very poor in that department. Playing any side scrolling game on that would give me a headache.)

For those who can't see a difference though. Don't bother looking for the difference. You'll wish you didn't see it.

    Looks like a nice mod.
I have an unused afterburner kit somewhere that I was always getting around to fitting, but ended up buying a AGS-101 instead.
The fitment method isn't unlike fitting an SP front light screen to an NGPC which I've also done.
Also fitted a back light to an original Gameboy, though kinda wish I'd used a pocket instead..
Might have to get me a kit for the funsees of it :D

It's actually EASIER than front lighting a NGP by far ;)

    Really

My first NGPC frontlight went very well, with only 1 tiny speck of dust on the screen (never been bothered to open it up and blow it out either).
My 2nd attempt failed as I managed to get a sticky mark on the wrong side of the front light screen and ruined it when trying to clean it of :(

Slightly put off by the cost of an AGS-101 in this case (though I could obviously buy a kit) one of my favourite things about the lit NGPC is how much of an improvement it is for very very little cost ;)

How did I not see this thread earlier?? If I wasn't already swamped in projects I'd be all over this in a heartbeat! Here's hoping the kits will still be available when I get some breathing room...

How about chinese off-brand "replacement" screens? Are those available somewhere (can't seem to find any right now)? I wouldn't want to sacrifice an 101 for this, seeing how I could get a(nother) GBM for around the same amount.

Yep, those, or the other one I just found before coming back here, at $30. Apparenty my search-fu is failing me lately. Anyways, those displays are more expensive than I thought, if I factor in the converter at another $15... I think I'll just hack together a few more GBM frankencables instead the next time if I feel like some Zelda Four Sword Adventures.

Yeah, you've gotta be SO careful with those front light components :(

I have found that a Q-tip and some isopropyl can most often clean up any smudges and whatnot that may happen. Just have to wipe VERY gently. VERY! Also, I always wear gloves. Too damned easy to fubar the stupid things with a single touch from a finger.

The kits aren't the cheapest thing on the planet, but I tell ya that it's 100% worth it in my book. I started off like most everyone else here, which was buying a kit from Zerey. Paid the same ~$60 with shipping. Was so impressed and it seemed like there was so much interest in the kits but it was (and is) sort of tricky buying from him. 'Twas a no-brainer to partner up with him and offer the kits stateside ;)

I would like to do this mod to my GBA as I don't like how the GBA SP looks. So I just need the bright screen and I also need some adapter cable? My GBA isn't launch version. I'm not sure if there is any differences in parts needed.
