I won't be buying one but I think it looks great. Plus some quality games coming out for it. I think it's cool that other companys will try somthing different like this, must be scary or them with the likes of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo so well integrated already. Good luck to them I say
The reason TecToy games are so expensive is that the import fees for technology into Brazil is ridiculous. That's why SMSs are still popular, because it's so expensive to bring in outside tech. It's also why it was so brilliant of Sega to team up with TecToy.
I know all these games have appeared on countless other consoles, but for an initial release line-up that's actually quite impressive. Especially to folks who've never had a chance to play these games before. I'm sold just on Sega's three releases and Street Fighter Alpha. I'm a great believer in the future of online digital distribution, so I'll be interested to see how this goes. It's difficult to compare these emerging markets with our fully established game industry, but I really believe that this is a sign of things to come. I'm also more than happy not to move my arse off the sofa and just download games via PSN. I also like the design of the console and pad.
For those who want to mess with it's SDK, just register at www.zeeboinc.com as developer. Many people are criticizing Tectoy (Qualcomm has 47% of it's shares now), but i'm seeing it at a different angle. It's the first time Tectoy are doing something different... in a LONG time. If they manage to reduce the console price, to something like R$ 359,00, they'll sell lots of it.
I hate Digital Distribution. I want the goods in my hand. I want to see the packing, I want to know it's safe when my hardware goes tits up, I want to know I'll still have it in 30 years time. None of that will be possible with Digital Distribution. Once the company decides to drop the machine then there goes the on-line stuff and then your games once your system goes tits up. Yakumo
That's not so great. My 3 year old phone has the same motion system which can be used in games such as House of the Dead or a Taito Golf game that I got. The phone I have now (2 years old in February) can preform graphics not far off what is shown on the link above. So if the Zeebo is the same power I'm not expecting much. Yakumo
Because you are in Japan. I have a mid range phone and it can't do much more than emulating an original Game Boy. Imagine in Brazil.
Yeah, I understand that but what I mean is that Brazilians can buy a modern day console for just as much as the Zeebo will cost can't they if they're imported? Yakumo
You are right. For the price of the Zeebo you can choose between PS2, PSP or DS... If you save a little, maybe a X360 and PS3. Sony even announced the PS2 officially here, so i don't see how the Zeebo will stand a chance. Maybe smaller studios can start there? Anyway, i don't see how they're gonna be sucessfull. Still, this is the company that makes MD and SMS and affirms that they sell well, including outside the country (they probably export to other south american and central american countries). PS: And people, we aren't an ancient country. People can buy any kind of high tech stuff these days, including cellphones with HDTV, GPS, and so on. Tectoy/Qualcomm is doing it to be an accessible gaming platform for kids, to be sold in the so called "BRIC" emerging countries. But i still don't think it will succeed..
