Your guess would be incorrect. The Dreamcast Zip drive uses a standard IDE interface internally. The actual Zip unit is an off-the-shelf internal IDE drive. I believe this has been discussed before, but I cannot recall if it was before or after "the big board wipe." If it was after, a search should turn up some hits. Hope this helps. -hl718
Ok, well Ide wouldn't be too hard. I thought someone had done a homebrew isa/ide interface for the dreamcast before ( ide is practically a cut down isa with a different connector ).
Why do people keep posting things on the 0th bit that have very little to do with its purpose. This kind of thread should be outside this forum where everyone can contribute.
The idea of a group bid on an extremely expensive, useless piece of hardware is a hilarious concept, even for a board of dedicated hobbyists such as yourselves. What would be the gain? The only interesting outcome I see from this is somewhat disassembling (oh noes) the drive and finding a way to modify standard Zip drives to work with Linux on the Dreamcast. Even this idea is pretty useless.
Meh... I honestly don't know what could be gained... but, still hopefully by posting things like this in this fourm we protect the ongoings of the auction. Even if its not a group purchase I would like to see the item get into good hands. Hands that would share the wealth. Anyways, the auction is back on for anyone whos interested http://cgi.ebay.it/Sega-Dreamcast-Z...ryZ62054QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
