Thanks for Partnering With Xbox.Rare LE

  1. no,..... with any kind of collectors edition or rare console, opening the casing is just about the worst possible thing you could do. It in essence completly ruins it as a collectors item.. That's like finding the holy grail then using it as a toothbrush holder. Be he actually took it one step further and gutted it completly. Sure you could probably replace the inards, but it's not going to restore it's value one bit.. It's seals have been broken and thats not something that can be undone. It's not really a matter of agreement, thats how it goes. You can say you didnt care about the monetary value and that you just wanted a rare item, but I think you might be whistling a different tune if you had a $1,500 piece of merchandice in your posession.

And as a matter of fact, I am far from a major collector. I have very few collectables of any value in my possesion. But even I can apreciate an Xbox like that, and know better that to do what you did to yours.

Anyways, i'm not trying to shit in your cornflakes, but man when I hear about things like this it kinda bums me out. When there are 60 of something on the planet and someone just basically takes a butter knife and a hammer to it, it's not going to sit well with me..

    Diddums.

Its his choice to do what he likes with it. If he wants to gut it then fair play.

Nah, the partner's xbox doesn't have the special edition text on it... velcro, the commentary is getting old.

I think you're being a little harsh. I hate to see the seal cracked on any LE system more than anybody, but it's not the end of the world. Let me show you a few things...

This is a prototype xbox. 4 were produced, 3 of them were destroyed in testing. One survives, or at least it did until i tried to hack it to play retail games. Now it's in pices on my kitchen table.

This is a BETA Live Debug xbox. I only know of 5 working examples. I've personally seen two of them get smashed. I tried to save this one, but the hard drive has crashed. The dvd drive is being held together with electrical tape, but it still works.

So there are worse things that have been done to "limited edition" consoles. Aside from that, i think that if Handles were to sell the xbox on ebay, even with full discolsure of the case swap, it would still go for over $250. The case is the important part, the innards are just a standard 1.0 xbox.

It's not the worst possible thing you can do. Plenty of people here have opened up their various dev systems and collectables. I've opened up my TEST a couple of times. I'm guessing I could still sell it since it is still a collectable.

First off there are no seals on an Xbox. Even if there were though it is still possible to fix, just a bit more costly. Simply replace the internals but scratch the lens first. Send it to Microsoft to fix and pay whatever since the seal is broken and the warranty (though I'm guessing it's long gone) is voided. Back it comes with a shiny new seal good as new.

  6. I could have sworn there was another recent topic about this partner Xbox thing...

And really, if you don't open a console occasionally, how else do you clean out the dust bunnies in order to leave it as spiffy-clean as when it rolled out of the factory, I'd like to know. There is something to be said, however, for at least hanging on to all of the pieces, even if you don't put it back together. I mean, which is better: bragging to your friends that you dropped $300 (random figure) on a super rare system, or $300 on a case hanging on your wall? It's all about appearances.

No Ace, no special addition text or anything. Just the standard green case short of the jewel.

Just FYI in case you guys dont know that ulgy thing on that dev box is actually a HD holder/selector(holds like 4 HDs + the retail or something). Ulgy as hell but functional. Id bet the guy can run a Debug enviorment a modded enviorment and a retail live enviorment all with its own dedicated HD. Lets hope anyway.

Oh and Velcrow, to gut it and send back HIS electronics was part of the deal. Sure I could have jacked him but im an honest guy. It was that or no case. I wanted the case and didnt give a flying fuck about worth. Thats how it goes. You should try to deal with it.

I spent $10 to get this case and the guy got a modded Xbox in return. All parties involved were very happy, so he nor I care that you hate to see this kind of thing happen.

Believe you me Im hip to the fact that you dont really want to do what I did, but this was years ago and if I had it to do over again I would have tried to get the guts from him, however Im sure that would have cost me 300+ dollars. A sum I would not of been willing to spend. Hell I thought It was just a Halo SE(you can imagine my suprise when I got the package and opened it).

Your right I think I will just put it in the garbage, followed by your bad attitude.

Idk what those spots are either. I tried using isopropyl alcohol to remove them but no luck. The stickers are still intact and unbroken, so I got lucky in that respect.

I think when people paint they use consoles to cover the furniture.

ehhhh still would fetch a lot less if he was honest on ebay, at least from me. Something that has been tampered with and taken apart is not near as valuable in my opinion

    @OE

You're going to need a bigger pool table... That's just disturbing...

*ProgrammingAce wonders how many xboxes he can fit into a single picture...
