https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qieaaXHZALE#t=0 Just. Amazing. The 90s Arcade Racer is probably the closest we'll ever get to having an unofficial Scud Race 2 / Daytona USA 3. It's still in development for Wii U - Windows - Linux - Android - iOS and due for release probably in the first half of 2014. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/896834116/the-90s-arcade-racer/posts/678470 Sure hope they add PSN-PS3 and XBLA-Xbox 360 support, at some point.
Looking good! It's unfortunate that it's not coming out this year, but I can wait. I'm really looking forward to it.
Same here. Used to play the shit out of Sega Super GT (Deluxe version with the moving cockpit) before they closed my local arcade.
I actually didn't notice the space/alien themed part until you mentioned it. I think I know what probably could have inspired that, from Daytona USA 2's advanced course
call me a sad old git but what's the point in playing something like this on a small hand held system? The whole point is to give that arcade feeling, something that no handheld is going to do. What you want is a big screen and kick ass surround sound system. In fact, this is the way I play all games, even retro stuff from the 8 bit days upwards.
True dat, weird that there is no plan for an Xbox or Playstation port. Racers on touchscreen are just too frustrating.
Thanks for the heads up GigaDrive, that definitely looks like a game to keep an eye on. Looking forward to learning more about the handling. Regarding TV vs mobile: Keep in mind that every port is associated with additional investments and complexity, which many small studios can't/don't want to deal with. I think Android versions are a good middle ground here, since you can play on the go if you want, or use one of those USB sticks or whatnot to play on a TV, at very little additional development cost (basically just testing with high and low resolutions, and adding bluetooth controller support should cover most cases I think).
Thats the thing though Yakumo, it doesnt have to be either or It is a perfect fit for a handheld, which with a good pair of headphones is closer to your face anyway. It's still the same controller that most people will end up using playing it hah Sometimes we forget we are the exceptions to the rule around this place.
