Yes but not always. As another example I posted a link to pics of the PS3 slim that were taken from the Chinese factory before it was announced.

That pic was clearly taken in a "private" area and there was no problem then. 1up.com had no qualms about posting it and neither did this site about the link. Hell, ASSEMbler was the second person to post in that thread. It is also not like that was the last time either. Pics of the 360 Slim and god knows how many Apple products have shown up here and elsewhere before their "official" debut.

And the funny thing about those pics is unlike posting a screenshot of a game actually can cost the company money. How many people decided to hold off on buying an iPhone or PS3 when a better or cheaper version was just around the corner.

The problem is that this ban seems to mostly be about assumptions and presumptions rather than facts along with (If I might say so) a fair bit of hypocrisy. There is also the huge clusterfuck this beta pic ban is going to cause. Who really knows where most of these pic originate so who is going to post them and risk a ban?

Then again, Like I said before I'm just playing Devil's Advocate with limited information.

 

A. Snow there are 2 major differences with those PS3 slim pics to the case here.

Firstly, the PS3 slim pics were just pics with no possiblity to redistribute the hardware - here Robert_Kendo has the prerelease software to take the screenshots thus has the software to redistribute.

The other major difference here is the rights owner has kicked up a fuss, as is ther right to do so.

 

what did banning do? did it remove the software we assume he had?

im just curious what effect the ban had.

 

It would remove more of the unregistered kits and reduce the chances of another leak such as this one.
My theory anyway

this isn't fair..why didn't anyone complain when I leaked images of my own game? I deserve some attention too

oh and on topic..Discretion is advised in grey matters. Attracting publicity for your wrongdoings is never an advisable method of getting popular.

So what realy happend ? Robert_Kendo post prerelease version of alan wake night spring ? or he made a screenshots and published here ?

 

Apparently he exploited PNet and downloaded AW(unannounced game BTW). Played the game and took a few screenshots, publishing them here and on his personal site.

This makes it even harder to gain trust. How are people like myself (and other semi-new users) supposed to make any headway in the community when stuff like this keeps happening?

I'll try fill in a few blanks here seeing as Rob can't do it himself!

Rob doesn't have access to pnet as the kit he owns is banned and has been banned for a long time. Rob was sent this build of Alan Wake via third party (I have no idea who this is nor do i want to find out; I'd rather not know some things). Rob didn't steal this data from pnet!

He had no idea that this data was for a TBA title and it would appear that alot of other people didn't either! For the short time the original post was up there were around 10 replies of which some were by admin/mods?! They also didn't realise?!

He thought he was doing something good for the community by showing pictures of what he thought were possible alpha shots from an already released Alan Wake title.
Remedy Games contacted him telling him otherwise and steps were taken to have all information removed from his own site, here and I think unseen64 also.

Please don't shoot the messenger! I am merely trying to pass along missing information :thumbsup:
