well they are priced into that level, as they charge $8 for some shitty xbla games, and near that for some DLC packs with two maps or a couple of cars, etc. They assume people will pay $15 for a full game. They probably will. I think there's still lots of people with dialup or DSL for games to suddenly on go to download, but it's nice to have the option. I was glad I could use my high speed internet to get the HD version of 300 off Live, and I didn't need a shitty overpriced blu ray drive or anything. All you need is enough HDD space, which MS will gladly sell us.
In your country maybe See, that's why I want this "download only" games thing to work. Cheaper, easily available games no matter where you are*. I don't think I could find Halo in stores, since piracy pretty much destroyed the Xbox used market here. *(That is, until they start with idiotic territorial lock outs, kinda like MTV or Cartoon Network do with their internet video content outside US) Also, bonus points for randomly mentioning your disdain for the Wii Shadowlayer! I really don't know how you manage to do it, but you somehow manage to mention something about "Cube 1.5" in every thread
The same thing than when your laptop or iPod dies, yet everybody is buying those to the point that the walkman is no-more and desktops are becoming less popular than notebook PCs. If that isnt a signal then only god knows what it is... Dont you find something out-of-place in that comment? why would publishers and manufacturers care about what pirates think? piracy already takes a big chunk of their profits away, and by buying the subsidized console but copying the games instead of buying them they're hurting the manufacturer which has the final word on how the system should and will work. The fact is that piracy will not help a console at all: the PSX consoles were popular in europe becos they were popular anywhere else, not due to piracy. If making a console easy to hack will boost sales then how can you explain that the Saturn, Dreamcast and Xbox, 3 consoles that could be easily softmoded bombed badly specially in markets prone to piracy? Man I must be on the twilight zone cuz now being a game collector geek is trendy and everybody is doing it! Music is way more popular than games and theres more audiophiles (or music fans for that matter) than gamers, yet everybody is going digital and downloading crappy MP3s instead of buying discs! how crazy is that? And I remind you that online gaming was something people were talking about since the 8bit, and there were attempts to do it during the 16bit and 32bit gens, yet just recently it became a reality on ONE console during last gen, and now everybody is doing it, even those who swore would never get into the deal. Never say never... I was making a point: just mentioned it was overpriced, while the Xbox was heavily subsidized yet failed. And BTW it isnt a "Cube 1.5" since they barely did an OC on the hardware. It could be 1.5 had nintendo changed the PPC core for a G5 or something like that...
I can keep a backup of the hard drive on my laptop. I can't, however, keep a backup of the files on a Wii (unless there's some exploit I've never heard about). Copy protection doesn't just hurt pirates, it also hurts legitimate consumers who should have the right to make backups of their media. I hear about people losing space to store Virtual Console games. People have to delete the games on their console in order to download new ones. Apparently you can re-download them for free, but what if there's a problem with the online database? What if the console's data gets corrupted? If the console dies, chances are all the games will disappear too.
We're getting Psychonauts and Fuzion Frenzy in the US instead of Fahrenheit, and it said on Gamasutra that the Japanese are getting a Puyo Puyo title and Magatama. Can't see this whole thing really becoming more of a half-baked idea in the long run though, at least right now, anyway.
Ooo Psychonauts. I still need to play that. Sadly one question, Will I be able to play my game if I take my HDD to a friends house? If it's like XBLA games and I am locked out, MS SUCKS!! Still Psychonauts temps me.
I understand your point now! Need more sleep heh (I personally think the Wii performance is ok and it's not overpriced at all, but it would have been better if the at least added the velocity engine ArtX removed from the PPC in addition to "OC") Oh I do have one question regarding all this downloads. Xbox live downloads are linked to the user account, right? Does that mean if I lost the hard disk or something happened to my console, I could re-download everything, right? I ask since I don't have a 360 yet. It worries me that I don't think one can do that on the Wii. If somebody stole my Wii, I would have to re-purchase everything, right? I know I can backup everything to an SD card, but purchases are tied to the console, so they would only work in the console that created the backup?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesnt the Wii stores the games in a SD card? cant you just take that card off and backup it on your PC? Dunno I just dont have a Wii yet... For company execs, "ethics" are Alien thinking:lol:...
I hope they fix the 50/60hz issue of PAL games. the 360 can (and does actually) have the option to run 50hz only games at 60hz (hence making it compatible with the VGA cable) but many games, like halo 1, conker's bad fur day etc won't play at 60hz thru the cable.
I think so, but I dunno. My friend brought one over, so I stuck my card in and looked at his Zelda save file on my PC, so I guess you can back stuff up like that? Dunno. I then stuck tubgirl on it and while he was on the phone he was greeted by a nice Wii slideshow. :icon_bigg
That might be the greatest thing I've heard all day. Keep it quiet though, mass market retailers might pull the Wii off shelves because you can add unsavory content to it :110:
It was funny as hell. I was rolling, because it showed it all dramatic like the slideshows do and had this goofy as fuck music in the background. He hung up his phone and walked in and was like WTF IS MY WII DOING ololol. The other thing I did to it was stuck Halo 2 in it and plugged in a 360 controller while I hummed the inspector Gadget song, it was the funnest thing all night next to Wii sports.
lol.. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/xboxoriginals/issues.htm out of the 6 mentioned games, 4 already have game specific issues. Way to release games with broken menus that crash the console. If you're going to rip off the VC, at least do it properly.
I'm really kind of surprised they're offering full games. Well, not really, I guess, but still, an Xbox DVD is a whole lot bigger than an N64 title on Virtual Console, I'm sure. If anyone out there reading this has downloaded a game you should let us know how this worked for you and about how much hard drive space it took and such. Also, now that I think about it, $15 for a downloadable Xbox game wouldn't really seem so bad to the average consumer. I wouldn't pay it (mainly because I'm a broke college student with a fucked-up car and a really expensive smoking habit), but considering most of the games offered would probably be around $10-15 new anyway (not counting however much it would cost to ride a bus or put gas in your car or bribe your mommy into dropping you off at the mall or whatever and go down to the store), they could be ripping people off a LOT more with this.
Yeah, this makes no sense to me. I have those games and Crash and Fable are just a pain to play. I hope they update them sometime. Plus Crash just isn't that good, especially Vs. the old ones.
